I'm definitely intrigued with the recent dev diaries. Done right, they'll be great, but what's the point if all the new native tags (while at peace) just delete their armies the moment their income goes negative like AIs do right now? There was definitely a decline in AI money management 1.30 and thus they just spiral into bankruptcy after bankruptcy, practically lobotomizing most countries. What's the point of the new mechanics if the AI isn't engaging enough to keep you playing with the new stuff?

I just finished a campaign in which GB was 25k+ in debt for decades in the 1700s and was keeping 330k troops, 270 of which were mercenaries... with a land force limit of 172k... while at peace smh Obviously they ended up in bankruptcy.

The AI should just delete those mercs the moment they don't need them (no rebels and at peace), instead of deleting normal regiments like they currently do for some reason

Main reason I think this question is more relevant now is that the AI was actively made worse with 1.30, and hasn't improved back up much at all since then, while they're now announcing a whole bunch of overhauls to South East Asia and the Americas.

Paradox priority is to push out content to sell stuff, not to make sure it works correctly.

Colonial nation AI is still heavily bugged but do you see them prioritizing it? Nope.

I will withhold judgement until the accompanying DLC patch notes are revealed. PDS is aware of this problem, let see if they fix it in 1.31.

Since the introduction of the mechanic that enables the use of colonists in already colonized provinces to passively increase development, AI of native councils is broken.
The majority is a OPM in a low development province, their monthly incomes is low, they don't have economy to colonize 1 province without going to negative but they can gain 1 colonist very early because of the native advancements button, this was never a problem before because native AI never used this colonist for anything but since the Dharma dlc they remain without colonize new provinces but they immediately use this colonist to increase the development of their only province, this causes permanent negative income, debt spiral and they disband their armies.

Yeah, well, if the this is any form of indicator: announcing the change of development director (and swaps of team members) of a franchise (ie: EU4) frequently tells a story from the inside, doesn’t it? Bug fixing always was a low priority for PDX unless it can be sold with something else.

We all know why...
$$$$$$$$

Unfortunately, this is pretty common too. A lot of games fall to constant updates and DLC that ultimately drestroys the game itself.

Tacked-on features of modern strategy titles will always fall short compared to strategy titles with fully integrated features that are designed to work together.

However the later doesn't make enough money to justify high-budget production. :/
