Considering I just found out that Backup Game Files now will constantly match your normal save on Ironman, what's the point of having backup saves at all, (Unless you feel like making one)? I understand that sometimes a Save will corrupt or something bad like that, but it can mess with the backup as well, and as far as I am concerned, corrupt saves don't really happen. What made backup save files so neat and "necessary" is that if you made a crucial mistake (like letting rebels spawn with 3x your current ability) or you want to test the waters in a planned war, backups enabled at least some kind of relief, rather than you literally needing to start an entirely new Campaign every... single... time... you make a a slightly too big mistake. I think I can safely assume everyone who has played EU4, has at least once gone to a backup save from a month or two back in the game, because their army melted in a battle and was decimated (so they plan a better location to put their army), or they accidentally let 3 groups of rebels spawn with 15-20 units, while you only have 10. Sometimes, you use a backup because England spawned colonialism 15 times in a row, when France conquered Brittany and Calais, making it so Colonialism will never spread... (*cries from that terrible Portugal campaign*) and you even have 4 colonies in Brazil. Backup save files should remain tied to auto-saves, not the Save save.
Edit: A real question, is going to a backup considered hard cheating (not soft cheating) in Ironman? If so, I can understand their decision to make Backups unusable.
