What's the most horrible thing you've done in this game?
For my current game, I decided to take inspiration from Count Dracula of Transylvania and Vlad the Impaler of Wallachia.
So I decided to play as a Transylvanian count, the Count of Feher, who ruled over the only Vlach (Wallachian) county in the Kingdom of Hungary. My game's mission would be to break free, establish an independent Vlach state and assume the title of King of Wallachia.
After a couple of centuries, I was a Vlach grand duke and the most powerful vassal in the Hungarian Kingdom. I was also playing as one of the best rulers my dynasty had ever produced, with strong stats and only positive traits. He was also a cool guy, a Games Master who'd ascended to the throne at a young age and had long presided over a prosperous and happy land. Everyone loved him and he was probably my favourite ruler (in a positive, salutary sense, at least).
Then my liege, the King of Hungary, suddenly died and I found myself as Regent to his heir, a new boy-king. Having the "quick" trait, the young lad looked like he would grow up to become a great ruler.
Some time passed and the king got betrothed to a royal daughter from a Kingdom I border to my North, and bigger and more powerful than my own. The betrothal, of course, meant that this kingdom was now in an alliance with my Hungarian overlord. Following that, news came through that the king had also allied with another powerful kingdom to my South.
These developments were very bad news for me. After a couple of centuries of building up my domain, I was finally at a point where I was powerful enough to be ready to launch my war of independence. But only if I fought the Kingdom of Hungary loyalists on their own. With these alliances, a declaration of war would now see my army outnumbered several times to one and, with the King of Hungary being so young, I might not get a chance to break free for decades.
So I did something horrible.
I did my own version of the "Princes in the Tower". As Regent, I had close proximal access to my young ward and so it was not hard to get a high plotting intrigue score. I only needed to bring in my Spymaster and one other local noble to the plot for things to proceed quickly. The young boy-king had an accident in the woods and no-one suspected anything (or at least that's what the game told me). Of crucial importance to my plans, this meant Hungary's alliances were now dissolved and I could finally break free and form my own kingdom.
I still have feelings of guilt, especially since it occured under the guardianship of my favourite ruler. But the king died for the greater cause of Wallachia (although I don't think that would have given him much comfort).
