What's the best mod for fixing the problems with the game?

After making multiple complaints about Victoria 2 not working right, I have been advised to "take advantage of eight years of community fixes by using mods."

I'm trying to take this advice, but I can't seem to find a mod that claims to fix the mechanical problems with the game's functioning. Everything listed on the wiki seems to be about adding new mechanics and/or changing starting conditions and events.

Where can I find the mod that has "eight years of community fixes" for Victoria 2?

Did you register your copy of Victoria 2? If so, go to the User Mods Section of this forum and download GAGA Extreme's PDM Divide by Zero. For me, this seems to help the most...

How do I register my copy?

When I click the "register a game" link at the top of the page, I get a page asking me for a redeem code, which states, "You will receive redeem codes if you buy our games outside Steam or our own store. These codes allow you to unlock private game-specific forums as well as forum icons."

I bought the game through Steam, and therefore have no redeem code. What do I do?

You don't need to message a mod, just sync your Steam account to this account. Click on your email in the top right and there you'll see an option to do the syncing.

The "eight years of community fixes" seems to be a bit sparse for the base game. The original "Popular Demand Mod" seems to be unavailable (but the later "Pops of Darkness" version for the final Vicky 2 expansion is still there), and many of the other mods for the base game seem to have vanished as well. If somebody actually still has copies of the earlier "PMD" and "A Pop Divided" files, there was a frantic search for them a few months/years back in the PDM forum, and it might make several people happy if they can be replaced.

I tried buying the expansions, but the Steam expansions won't work with a CD copy of the base game (Steam won't recognize it as a valid install), and dealing with Steam at all is a problem for me that I don't want to get into, so don't even suggest it. Dragging my PC down to the car, taking it to work, and downloading the expansions from Amazon or GoG over a MUCH faster line than dial-up over a crackly phone line may be awkward, but at least it's not impossible. Amazon, GoG, and Gamers Gate are/were at least compatible with each other or the CD (Steam isn't), but Amazon has been "out of stock" for at least 6 months, Gamers Gate no longer sells Paradox games, and GoG doesn't seem to have Vicky 2.

Unfortunately, that rules out PDM until/unless something changes.
