Title says 2375 but I am a dummy and meant 2275. Could a moderator delete this thread?

Hello there,

just a quick question as I just got stomped by my neighbor AI and never had a similar thing happen to me. The AI casually "walked" up to my borders with roughly 35k worth of fleets and of course melted my defense. It was the year 2276 and I was just absolutely caught off guard by that.

I cheated a bit and switched to the AI to see how it could get that fleet power. Turns out it had 720 fleet cap and used all of it. At the year 2276. That's nuts. It even had another 6k stack just minding it's business somewhere near their cap.

So am I just bad at the game or is my mostly passive playstyle biting me in the ass? Or is there just no way to beat such a monstrosity. Again I usually go for a tech rush and sim city alot and just fortify my borders but there isn't a star base that could defend against that kind of onslaught.

Not sure about the AI but by 2375 as a player I’d be aiming to be wiping out the fallen empires before they can wake up. Id want to have 200k at a bare minimum for that year.

You need to be really pumping your soap manufacturing operation. You can get loads of fleet cap from fortresses.

720 fleet cap [AI] in 2270 sounds like a "not fun" scenario unless you've got the perfect map for it. I imagine this happens with TONS of planet-side fortresses or is the AI somehow able to build and support a LOT more anchorages than I would give it credit for??

Next time, try to get a Defensive pact from someone nearby if you have an angry neighbor with an overwhelming fleet size. Failing that, you can always let someone vassalize you once you're done expanding.

You can do better, but 35k+ by 2275 is pretty tough vs Glavius' Mod. Maybe if you cheese it one way or anther like ensuring you get First League precursor event to give yourself an Ecumenopolis. Also if you're choosing ethic/government types specifically designed for war/alloy production.

If it were vanilla, you could just rush out a bunch of useless AI neighbors and create a big empire in no time. With Glavius + Grand Admiral Difficulty that's out of the question.

It's actually a quite fun challenge trying to survive while being the low man on the totem pole. You're forced to really strategize, plan, and engage with your neighbors to stay alive while you slowly get your empire in order.

There is quite a lot of strategic depth in this game that is completely sidelined because the AI becomes "Pathetic" strength so easily in Vanilla. The player either ignores them or just roles over them at his leisure. But when your back is against the wall for the first 100-200 years it really forces you to be much more engaged and thoughtful with the AI neighbors.

35K by 2270s is pretty neat. Good to know the mod works across the board, and thank you for feedback.
Will relay to @Glavius!
Thank you. That drop down menu is so small I didn't even see that. But now I have 2 threads. :(

Anyway... It's actually more like 53k combined. View of the AI's empire after I switched:

Yeah I mean, that's pretty scary. Also I couldn't find a better save so the numbers are a bit off.

It's a combination of just simple anchorages, the ascension slot (forgot the name) and only a few from pops. That's apparently enough with the huge bonus it get's on grand admiral.

Im playing my own mod with AI x3 resource, nav cap, and -66% ship cost.
But in 2340 they are rarely pass 500k fleet power total.
In 2370, i have 4m naval power, they still stuck in around 500k.

In my current game [Admiral, no scaling, agressive AI, ironman] I was the low man on the totem pole and 2/3 of my neighbors were warring me almost constantly from about 2250 to 2290 ish. I could have held out against slightly larger forces but 50K+ would have just rolled right over me given my current playstyle.

They would roll over me too. That's why you gotta find someone to protect you in the early/mid game and try hard to boost your relationships with bribes and agreements.

Believe it or not I was trying just that. 2/3 of my neighbors HATED me ... the other one just didn't like me. I guaranteed that empires independence pretty much forever and eventually they turned the corner but that was AFTER the point where I had stabilized ... figures :)

I talked to @Glavius and he said, being on Grand Admiral, that the Fleet Power is pretty weak on that year, and can do better! Are you sure you aren't on Ensign? :p
It's something he'll have fixed, the AI didn't produce enough Alloys Early Game.
You'll see much bigger fleets on GA!
And on Ensign of course.

I think my humor detectors went offline ... Are you saying that with GA difficulty with the Glavius AI mod that AIs should have stronger than 53K fleets by 2270?? Seriously?

Heck I thought I was doing at least "OK" in my current playthrough where, I believe, I had 20K fleets around that time :)

Devil's advocate: Based on a screenshot I did have the resources where a larger "desperation" fleet could have been assembled. Combine that with better play than what I am likely capable of and maybe really good players have a shot. Then again this is GA and not Ensign :)
