Yeah, Hoi4 is a flagship title, but it doesn't really feel like. They really need to grind the new people from Eu4 and Ck2 to Hoi4.

Not sure if it's EU 4 or CK2 but one of those has the most weird research system I have ever encounter in my life.. you just set a court member to spread or attract a flow of technologies that spreads in you country and then after it gets full you choose to click on a box to improve x stat.. I found this very counter intuitive to most research system on similar games.
At least in HoI I choose what I want to research, I know how long it will take and on what It will improve..

it would probably be EU4, but by a slim margin to CK2 and its plethora of total conversion mods that EU utterly lacks; which really sucks because a couple CK2 mods; Crisis of the Confederation AKA space game extraordinaire and After the End AKA post-apocalyptic like fallout but not at all related to it; are seriously prime material for porting or even sequelizing into EU4.
oh and then V2 in 3rd place by sheer staying power and lack of announced sequel, and HOI 3 in last because it represents all the unloved nephews you have to murder in CK2.

I got put off by hoi3 for literal years, though I dabbled at it. EU4 was the first paradox game that got me. To be honest though, I was also put off by ck2, vicky2 and hoi3. I enjoy all the games much more now though. The "steep" learning curve is in my opinion what puts people off, so much commitment is needed for a game.
All paradox games have a steep learning curve. Wouldn't knowing Eu4 be enough to get you into the other games? Also, how's the club band going?
EU4s learning curve was the easiest, it got me out of Civ5. I would rank hoi3 the hardest with Vicky2 second and Ck2 third. Learning whole new systems was difficult, from IC to Dynasties to PUs, they cover alot of ground. 1/2 of the band is missing BTW.

this. EU4 is by far the easiest to get into. hell i learned it twice! once when i first bought and played the game for months, and after playing CK2 for months and having to relearn everything because of many changes made in the many patches i hadn't played during their times.
i'd put CK2 and V2 as a very close 2nd and 3rd respectively due to their complexities. HOI 3 on the other hand isn't so hard to learn per se, it's just so bogged down with micromanagement and monotony that it gets irritating.

That looks very possible, HOI4 will be more accessible then the older HOI while being superior in pretty much every single feature, the focus on long term planing is a decisive advantage of HOI4.

It will be interesting to see if it can be the best seller against the latest generation of the Paradox stable, EU4 and CK2. They really represent a totally new reality for Paradox.
Let's hope that HOI4 is more than a match for those others.

That makes sense. Not everyone knows what West Francia was, what the HRE was, or what the 100 or 30 years war were about. But everyone knows who Hitler is and what WWII is.
You'd be surprised.

"Wasn't that in the 1960s?"
"No, that was Vietnam."
"Wait, wasn't it in the 1950s?"

"I thought Vietnam was fought in the 1940s."

I hear you. I've been asked if I fought in Nam, and WW2 and WW2 ended 25 years before I was even a swimmer.
HoI3 was easy to get in I think. But controling every division manually was not enjoyable. Simply too much. And letting AI fight the war turned the game into a bad movie.

I've considered just saying yes and then quoting lines from Walter from the Big Lebowski, but that never ends well:
Besides, all I need is for some student to hear me say I was in Vietnam, then report me to a newspaper as a liar. That would do wonders for my employment opportunities.
I wonder if there's a market cap on Strategic WW2 game that is lower than the bar set by a more general Renaissance Strategy game and a Role Playing Medieval Murder Game.

Murder game is fitting. Freakin' getting assasinated by our own daughter, "You died in a hail of arrows." so she can become queen. >:c Luckily in HoI that's not a problem.
