It doesn't just happen. As long as I meet the requirements, I should not be forced to pay 100 to 500 bucks more to continue to play something that worked the day before.

But it doesn't meet the requirements anymore, if it says it does then that's also the fault of Pdox not raising the requirements. But the fact some people just don't have enough RAM anymore, isn't that the issue? Remember it will just get worse and worse as they add events, mechanics, or whatever. I saw for example gigs of RAM for 60 - 100 dollars. About the same for a collectors edition of a game or a game itself and about as much as this game with it's DLC. Now I'm not tech savy but that is what I looked at.

I'm surprised this is an issue. My computer is an old piece of shit and the only performance issues I noticed was that saves take slightly longer. Ironman is still unplayable, but other than that I'm having no new performance issues or crashes. I should mention I turn the tress off to boost performance a bit.

Not all computers can accept modern RAM sticks, as far as I know. It depends on the motherboard, and if that is too old you can do exactly nada, apart from shelling the bucks for a new machine. Moreover, while a slowdown CAN be accepted, absolute unplayability cannot - you just removed them from a game they bought.

No one is at fault for purchasing a DLC that was supposed to run on their system. They should not be told to update their computers so that the DLC will work. It also may not even be an old hardware problem. The issue is with 32-bit OS's. Someone could have a computer capable of running 64 bit OS, but be using a 32 bit OS for whatever reason. I actually do that on some of my partitions for better performance with some legacy programs. Although, I'm having no problems with CKII on one of those partitions since the patch.

In any event, it's on Paradox to fix the issues, not on people who purchased the game to upgrade their hardware.

Damn, I thought we'd have at least a couple of things fixed a week after release :/

I made the mistake of buying SoA on release, and I did it again with RoI. I thought it would be fine since I wasn't going to play as an Indian culture/religion right away but it turns out I was wrong :/

I mean every product will be somewhat buggy on release, that's to be expected. But come on, it's been a whole week guys. You must have dozens of bugs fixed internally by now, just release that already.

I have a question. I think i get too less soldiers from my vasalls.
In my new campaign i get from a earl just 100 soldiers and from a other earl 400 soldiers. Both like me to 100% and they have both just one earldom.
The most other vasalls give me under 100 soldiers. Have you this mistake, too?

Sorry for my mistakes in english...

Well if people had been clearly told that the requirements for RoI were higher it wouldn't really be a problem, as long as they can play 2.0.4 (aka the game they bought, if not a superior version).

But it's ridiculous to see that the system requirements on Steam are still way too low (2 GB RAM? Riiiiight...) and that as a result a new buyer might simply not be able to run the game/DLC they just bought. It doesn't help that Steam is a terrible service when it comes to refunds.

Vassal levies were lowered by a lot in 2.0 / Sons of Abraham. Have you played the game since then?

I'm with you 100%. A couple of days is one thing, but a week is ridiculous. If your game is so buggy on release that it takes more than a week to fix then it couldn't have even been close to a finished product on day one. There is no way that Paradox is so incompetent as to not realize these glaring problems, which would strongly suggest they knowingly released an incomplete product that was advertised as complete.

Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't aware this was time for accusations of piracy, or that whether I'm a pirate or not has anything to do with the discussion. It's not my job to work with a bug reporter. It's my job to enjoy the damned game that I've spent money on for the purpose of enjoying. Would you buy a computer if the manufacturer had to send you parts to incomplete hardware on a monthly basis? Would you buy a car if it had to go into the shop every four weeks?

I bought everything, if it makes my argument any more legitimate or illegitimate. And I kinda wish now that I hadn't.

Paradox Entertainment is just another of the many actively dishonest publishers that work off the 'release a game in beta to make money early, patch and repair as necessary' method. The suits in charge of the publisher are not in this business for the love of video games, they are in this to make money for themselves and the shareholders, and they don't give a damn about the devs or us, so long as we give them our money and don't start lawsuits/boycotts to draw negative attention.

I realize this is the forum of the developer, but if we don't speak up, our grievances will not be heard, and Paradox Interactive will fail in the same way that EA and most other publishers have, and Paradox Development Studio will fall just like myriad other devs attached to the publishers have, and while there will be profits, the money made from selling us down the river and then falling apart due to public uproar is short term and doesn't last, compared to that made from the long-term investment of catering to your damned customers, acting like a respectable business, and making it possible for the developers to complete their task and market a complete and polished game, instead of trying to sell us a bridge every three months.

We are loyal customers. We put up with the DLC, because we want to see Paradox succeed and prosper. DON'T MISTAKE OUR ENTHUSIASM FOR GULLIBILITY AND MAKE US PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF TELLING YOU WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR PRODUCTS.

I have not made any accusations. I was advising you to register your game so that you can see the bug forum, since not all new people to the forum are even aware that there is a separate bug forum until they have registered their game.

And no, I would be quite upset if I had bought a computer that needed new parts sent out within weeks of purchase. However, if when I complained to the manufacturer that the computer was slow and glitchy they were then to say "we're aware that there's a problem with the parts and we're resolving the issue before sending out replacements that we have thoroughly tested", I would at least give them some breathing room.

I would also take issue with "actively dishonest". Most releases that Paradox have made have been clean and (relatively) bug free, and bugs that get through are resolved acceptably quickly in most cases. This one however does run counter to their usual standards.
To make it more difficult, in order to resolve a bug, they have to be able to reproduce it and trace it, and then find a solution. This isn't always easy, especially when it's something that only happens with a narrow combination of circumstances.

Feel free to speak up, but do try not to get offended when people point you towards the correct place to report bugs and tech support issues.

Nothing in what Paradox does makes you "pay to report bugs", unlike some older styles of support where you would actually have to pay to call or write to the studio to report problems. Having bought the game, the bug forum, tech forum, and in fact the entire rest of the forum is free to access, give or take your internet access charges, which aren't Paradox's responsibility.

Huh? Where'd that come from? I just assumed that DreadLindwyrm had assumed that Specchief hadn't registered yet, given that he/she has a single digit post count (at the time of this post), and was telling him/her to register so he/she could access the bug report subforum, which is invisible to those that haven't registered, to the best of my understanding.

Thank goodness someone spotted my meaning when suggesting to a single digit poster that they register so they can see the bug forum.

I'd like to get a frame when we should expect the hotfix. Is it hours, days, weeks or months? I don't like that I have to check this forum every f'kin hour to check if the patch have been released, I will move to other chores and pastimes.

If they say, "weeks", and it turns to "months" after some weeks have passed, I won't get pissed. At least I have not wasted my time for checking the forum all the time.

+ I agree this release was the most messy since the Republic came out (now when I think, SoA was pretty buggy, too). Next time I won't even buy the product unless the hotfix is already out.

I'd like to chime in and say that I am actually waiting for this first patch until I buy ROI and the Turkish portrait pack. I've actually stopped playing CKII completely in fear of spoiling my current Ironman saves.

Pregnant kings, buttons that are missing, endless revolts and game crashes: doesn't sound worth it to risk it right now.

We are talking less than weeks for the time frame. Of course bad things can always happen. But that is what is most likely now.

No, not when this is the 4th or 5th time in a row that the company screws up in the exact same manner with the exact same computer after an upgrade.

I would also take issue with "actively dishonest". Most releases that Paradox have made have been clean and (relatively) bug free, and bugs that get through are resolved acceptably quickly in most cases. This one however does run counter to their usual standards.
No they haven't. Every DLC released for CK2 has been anything but bug free and some with key features broken, and I venture throwing out every game released by Paradox as well.

To make it more difficult, in order to resolve a bug, they have to be able to reproduce it and trace it, and then find a solution. This isn't always easy, especially when it's something that only happens with a narrow combination of circumstances.
And that is fine, but why isn't more time allocated BEFORE release for a change?

Nothing in what Paradox does makes you "pay to report bugs"
Actually that is how I and every person I know that play CK2, feel. To rephrase for you - "paying to be beta-tester", which is so in these days, throwing away competent QA for paying costumers.

Am I the only one who thought SoA was one of the best expansions yet? Dynamic crusades, heresies overtaking orthodoxies, endogenous Pope, deeper antipope/antiking system, tons and tons of new events... And that's not even all it added.

SoA is my favourite expansion. The hate SoA got for being "thin" is exactly what pushed them towards this India abortion -- salient, easy-to-understand additions that add breadth over depth. Yes, you get a whole new region -- but did you really get any new interesting game mechanics? You got "three new religions," but is playing those religions really a unique experience?

I wrote this in another topic just before it has been locked for doubling this one. My fault for not seeing this one, hope it will not be a problem if i will post it again.

I remember my first question here after the info about RoI - would India be included in the patch or exclusive to DLC? And would there be a version without it? The answer was: 'no, but don't worry, it will be optimalized so no one will see the difference'.
Well, i can start it like every third time, otherwise it crashes at loading - typical memory overrun. Some people cannot start it at all and from what i see in TH, the offered solution for now is to modify the registry to give the game as much RAM as possible. No, thanks.
So, i was even ready to pay those crazy money (i've just bought FM 2014 for not so much more - of course in 50% sell and in fact i'd gladly take my money back - but anyway) for RoI. But now it makes no sense, as every DLC makes starting the game even harder for weaker computers - i am quite sure i will not be able to start the game at all if i will install it. And i am not going to buy a new computer for one game, as those 3GB RAM on 32-bit system are completly enough for all other uses i have, including such memory-eater as Football Manager. Especially that one year ago i had no problems with playing this game.

I knew it would turn this way, as the same thing happened to the Game of Thrones mod just a moment before RoI came. They threw Essos continent in, making the map much bigger and the whole mod practically unplayable to many people. Sad, as it was my main reason to buy the game. Well, for the last iteration of the mod they said directly that it's incompatible with machines without 64b system and 4GB RAM. I'll look forward to Paradox if they'll make some magic trick with optimalisation or just leave weaker machines behind the same way. Meanwhile i'll play 2.0.4, i don't need India to have some fun with this game...

That may be the #1 gameplay issue, but it is nowhere near the #1 game issue, IMO. The problem Groogy mentions means some people cannot play the game at all. Naturally everyone thinks the problem they encountered is the most important one, but between QA, Tech Support and the devs we have to prioritise issues as we judge appropriate. Can you imagine how someone who couldn't play the game at all since 2.1.1 was released, would feel if the first hotfix out of the gate was for religious unrest and nothing else?

Great response, please keep us in the loop where possible. Open lines of communication help a lot to maintain the necessary trust that things are happening, however slow.

Perhaps they should put the old map in as an option, as well as a India-only map option, for 32-bit players. There reaches a point where the game is as expanded as it can be for them, and future features will become 64-bit only.
