I dont understand HoI but I could do with putting more effort in.

I played once as Yugoslavia and got really confused whilst WW2 raged on around me. "war you say? gosh, well I never!, how queer.... Germany? Invading Poland, now come on...." I was somewhat bewildered.

I always thought EU was very straight forward but I guess its changed alot since the days of EU1.

There is not hate between the two groups as its mostly the same group in my experience.

I don't know which is the easiest to learn....

But I know that Hoi will genrally have the same outcome because of the short timepsan.

EU II games will never be the same

I think that EU2 is actually easier to learn and is a much better game anyway. The tooltips in HoI aren't always very helpful and the manual confuses more than it aids (like EU1 that way, I guess). It took me many sessions to figure out why my IC was changing so often and the whole convoy system was a mystery for days.

The EU2 interface is clearer, the game's idea is more fully-formed, and the military/industrial model is a lot simpler.

HoI is an OK game, and the research model is first rate.

I own both. I find HoI was easier to learn, but then I learn by playing, and use the manual only to help with finer points. HoI is easier when playing a major nation but EU2 is easier with smaller nations because you have way more time to expand. I like HoI better mainly because of it's faster pace. But that's just my opinion.

Have both, like em both but i think EU is bether. I would like to see some of Hoi merged into EU2, like reaserach. But imagine how a 400 year tech trea would look like

I find Germany in Hoi equally easy to play as France in EU2

EU 2 is generally more refined, although HOI is also good. It is somewhere in between EU I and EU II, with few things even above EU II, conception-wise.

I don't really like elaborate tech trees. Seems they are there to keep me busy. I like the linear model that EU has going now. If I was to do anything I would just add tech sliders.

Say like breaking Land Slider into 3 separate sliders.
Infantry, Cavalry and Siege.
or add a Military Command tech slider.

There is nothing worse than having to remember to research something. I always forget to change my policy sliders.

Neither game is very hard to win if you play a major power, but HoI seems especially easy because the AI is awful for most of the states - still. EU2 is seven and a half patches in and each change makes the game more challenging.

The learning curve for EU2 seems steeper than it really is. Just don't get intimidated. There are a couple of good threads here on how to learn the game quickly. Seek 'em out. You won't be disappointed.

I own both, I like HoI, but I think Eu2 is the greatest thing not only since sliced bread, but even the coolest thing since new, refined and higher protein strains of grain were developed, which helped much of Western Eurasia begin to produce food surpluses... on and on. Anyway, as for which is harder... I can't remember the last time I actually "lost" in either of them... I think i'd say Eu2 is more in depth and that there is more to learn however, especially from recent patches that make many things so drastically different from what you'd see in the manual anyway.

Hearts of Iron is easier than EU.

if you're the USSR and you annex Germany, you don't get 50 minors declaring war on you :D

EU2 is a better play. I started with HoI, but got bored with it because it is a little too predictable. I mean, if you play germany, you know the allies are out to get you. If you play as Japan, you know the US isn't going to be a problem.

Not to say HoI isn't fun though...pushing those frenchies into the ocean...:)

I was rather disappointed with HoI, as were other people. For one thing the trade system is a bit confusing, as is the fact that though all my provinces (I cheated as the Philippines!!) produced thousands of tonnes of rubber and oil, I always ran out...
The convoy system doesn't seem to help in this respect (I have oil to all the islands for my troops, and convoys back to Manila with oil, but where does it all go?!)
The fact that there are hundreds of useless provinces that don't provide I/C or any resources (of which there are too few: only four types)
The tech tree seems a bit too complex for me, always micromanaging things...
And the idea of conquering an entire nation just to get a few provinces seems a bit much (in cheater mode British India is now occupied [but not owned] by the Philippines, but how the f*** do I get to Britain!?)
The fact that there are no partisan groups, revolts etc. like in EU2 seems a bit unfortunate.

Overall, I found HoI harder to master and grapple effectively. A game as the Philippines without cheats would have been so bloody dull!
