You should train your air wings only during the day or the night, not both. Training them during both consumes more fuel, but provides no benefit to the rate at which they gain XP.

Personally I only train them during the day, because I think that training them during the night increases their accident chance, same as training them in a state with bad weather modifiers. Not entirely sure on this part though.

With the new military spirits there are some that are very specific to the units you are using. For example most people will have discovered that by using the "Cavalry Heritage" spirit not only will you get bonuses to cavalry but adding cavalry to division templates becomes free - but just the cavalry. There are similar spirts affecting armor motorized/mechanized and infantry. Each doctrine has some means of making officers and/or advisors much cheaper

There are similar ones for the navy allowing for much cheaper switching of designers, cheap cruiser designs, cheaper subs and best of all - for the air force there are spirits related to air doctrine that allow a huge reduction on the XP cost of boosting either fighters [or strat bombers or both - I've yet to investigate the Strat Destruction doctrine for this], tac bombers or CAS. The cost reduction allows all four stats to be fully boosted for less than 200 xp.

It really pays to switch stuff about even if it costs some XP instead of CP or PP.

I find training huge wings results in less losses as I believe the accident rate is per unit not per plane [but I might be mistaken]. Even so, once you're mostly up and running, setting a few training wings up to soak up the obsolete units will keep those out of your frontline wings while also allowing you to train up some new wings. Once they're fully trained just set them to get better aircraft and they'll automatically upgrade [especially if you prioritize them and have aircraft in stock] and the junk will once more get dropped into the new training wings. Rinse and repeat.

With subs less is better - smaller squadrons get detected less. Using sub squadrons of 20+ will result in significantly more losses once they get detected. I've found that units as small as five per work till I have ten squadrons of five, then I up that to ten per before starting another fleet of ten squadrons. I don't worry about ensuring the best subs are in my most experienced units - that will happen eventually due to losses.

As I just said in another thread, this game really needs an overhaul of obscure rules like this. How am I as a player meant to know that I get no added benefit out of training wings both night and day. This is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, it's pretty bad.

Personally I just wondered about it, because I knew it'd be a very PDX-type oversight, and tested it for myself, and sure enough, it was as I expected. But it's something most players won't ever discover, and PDX ought to fix it and other similar oversights.

renames Leningrad to Mannerheim

Lol, that's very silly.

EDIT: Are you sure you're not thinking of a mod though? I searched the game files and found nothing on this.

From another thread:

you can still deploy 320+ [needs to be over 300; 320 allows for some accidents or shot-down] on Intercept and keep strats out of that airspace as the AI will note the numbers of interceptors and go elsewhere. This is another good use for obsolete fighters. I suspect this will change with BBA. I do not know if i

If you have >300 fighters (e.g. wingsize 310) on interception the AI will not strat bomb that zone.
You can cover all your air with obsolete planes like this and be safe. (Even without building any state AA)

Just to clarify, that bit with applying the designers after the fact with regard to variants also works with armor. I don't remember if it also works for ships but I suspect it might.

I had the Oster Conspiracy event happen to me during my Romanov Last Laugh run so rather than restart I just went to war with the Allies. Good thing they only required the specific states to be controlled not conquered [despite the description] because I barely managed to pull it off.
