After a nearly two year long diversion through CK, then EU2, then EU3, then CK again, then Rome (that lasted only two weeks), then HoI2 I’m finally back to Ricky again. I'm a huge Victorian period fan and I’ve only ever played vanilla; can someone recommend a really good mod?

Southern revolutions is a good mod. It doesn't do much though, only makes CSA survives a bit better and some events for WWI. I'm not a fan of VIP and its "oops its xx date, you gain provinces for free" events. Vanilla victoria revolutions is also pretty good on its own so try it out without any mods first and see how it goes.

Example please of what you mean, I thought we've caught most of those from earlier versions so that those kinds of events usually only happen if context fits AND there is usually a cost in either money or POP reaction (MIL or CON or new issues).

Given the thousands of events that exist in VIP though, a few may still need tweaking.

the mod franchil is rather good too, though I'm not sure he's done an english-speaking version(note : France is slightly overpowered in this one). He has a good set of events for WWI, especially.

The British being given Australia and New Zealand.

The Southern Revolutions mod basically changes the flag. The war is just as unwinnable and it's really a waste of your hard drive space.

Those are no longer simply given. You pay through the nose in cash and prestige (well, the prestige loss could arguably be worse). But you better be sure to keep spare cash lying around or you'll constantly have to be recovering from debt.

It was stupid in a VIP MP game, where I (Russia) and my friend (France) Destroyed Prussia in the German unification war. Then after a few years we attacked Prussia again, and when I conquered half of prussia and France another half, Austria got an event that said it won the 1866 war against Prussia. It was about 1877, and Prussia won the war against Austria in 1866. Austria got Schlesien and Halle. It was very weird. Though the mod is really good! Keep up the good work OHGamer.

US (and CAN and ENG) has to pay money and deal with increase in native Mil in the new provinces in North America

ENG gets native MIL boost in the new provinces, and in New Zealand a whole host of Maori conflicts later to boot.

they are definitely not freebies received gratis

you see the problem here is with the command won_war - any event that uses it will have it work for any war that is fought between the two nations up until the deathdate of the event.

If there was a way to quantify the war time period so that it would only work with specific wars then there would be no issue.

We've already tried narrowing the lifespan of the events, but that caused players to compain that it made it too rigid to try and achieve GER unification - it had to be then or never, and one could not, if one wanted, choose to delay the war until later if wanted or needed. So it's one of those things where you cause problems for players in one way or another no matter how you resolve it. Since PRU/GER is one of the most popular nations played, we've tended to default to giving the PRU player greater scope.

I humbly invite others to check out the mod's thread (link below) and read about the scores of people who win as the CSA on a historically consistent basis using SR. You may still find it to be a waste of hard drive space, but at least then it will be for something the mod actually does wrong.

For those who feel certain mods are lacking or not up to their own individual specifications, it is not exactly difficult to mod the game (or elements of a mod) further yourself to fit your personal tastes.

Actually with VIP we encourage it. There is no way we can make a mod that will please every player in every possible way.

The important thing to remember is, if we modders can change it, you yourself can change our changes to something else. In fact, the Victoria community as a whole would benefit from having more players actively involved in their own modding projects to create many different alternative mods.

But seriously, if I go with the VIP:R mod can I use any of the graphics or pop mods on the go, i.e. are they compatible? Cheers.

graphics should not be an issue, in fact the interface mod by Tyrel68 was developed with VIP in mind (only issue might be with some of the resource changes we made, solution would be to install Tyrel's mod before installing VIP:R 0.2, since we include only the graphic changes we need for new goods)

POP mods are a bit trickier since VIP has reworked our own POP files extensively, and the game loads with directions to read our own specific VIP-made POP files.

Sure! I helped him translate the whole CSA events (and another country I forgot) three years ago!
I do not know what the hell he did with these translations...

On the English forums THE mod seems to be V.I.P.
-i downloaded vip and gave it a go, but prefer the dynamic of vanilla.it has a huge following though so they must be doing things right

then there is War of the Worlds by Wannabetatar which is a specific WW1 mod. Havent tried it but I heard good thing about it

I prefer Vanilla personally to mods
