Diplomacy and Trade. With some of the following:
  • Federation Politics and Policies (a similar progression to EU4's HRE including the ability for a president to assimilate members into a single empire, unified Federation Ethics / Gov't, ELECTIONS FOR PRESIDENT, etc.)

I'll be very interested to see how the dev team deals with unifying federations. In particular I want to see how the ethics are established. Maybe on the unification screen you can see all the relevant info, opinions of you, and ethics. You can assign a total of 3 ethics, minimum 1 ethic, like empire creation screen. But as you pick ethics you see the impact it has on opinions and whether or not that will prevent that empire from unifying or convince them to. Conceptually it would be very similar to right now when you pick wargoals and see the best deals you can get for a peace. Perhaps you need to have 100% agreement to unify and there's other little ways of fine-tuning the unified empire. Maybe on this screen you can set a species living standards to high in order to make that empire agree to unification.

Diplomacy needs an overhaul. Even with ethics it's quite barren and showcases little in the way of empire personality. There is so much tied up here that remains unexplored: trade, espionage, warfare, or even a galactic council attempting to impose its will. .

totaly agree.

The first contact diplomacy screen is also uselss, just 3 texts with no effect. that would be one way to give the empires personality.

Absolutely Diplomacy.

Federations need to be overhauled in the vanilla version. More spice added for regular diplomacy as well, coalitions, etc.

Espionage and a galactic UN could be fun DLC additions to the next patch after Banks/Utopia.

Diplomacy in general, federations in particular.
Cross-referencing the Wiz Doctrine thread and the idea that each ethos should have its own distinct features, I wouldn't mind seeing proper federations (with expanded and unique benefits and problems to solve) be reserved for xenophile and/or egalitarian empires. The existing, basic system could be kept as confederations or alliances or something.

What about Europa Universalis 4: Art of War and Mare Nostrum DLCs?
Those DLCs deal with military strategy and grand strategy. Neither combat itself nor any kind of tactical involvement by the player are involved in either DLC. Looking over the feature list, the only thing I can see that's at all tactical is the addition of engagement width in the free update accompanying Mare Nostrum. That kind of thing would be within what I might expect for Stellaris: Modification and addition of tactical mechanics that players don't interact with directly, mostly for the purposes of balance. A DLC focusing on combat and tactics, however, is something that Stellaris has never done. If we consider the current philosophy of moving more things (e.g. food) to a wider scale and Wiz's stated desire to streamline ground combat in particular, it's very unlikely that they'll reverse this policy for Stellaris.

I don't really think this is a bad thing, either. In 4x games that do include tactics, it's generally an annoying minigame that I'd rather skip. The only game I can think of which combines a large scope with fulfilling tactics is Dominions 4 (and its predecessors) where battles are decided according to preselected tactical considerations ahead of time. Something like that is great, but I'm not sure it's a great fit for Stellaris or for the design team anyway.

Space combat.

I want more rare and unique weapons trees. Isn't it a bit weird that two totally alien civilisations will develop the exact same red lasers?

- Corporations, trade routes and the introduction of the collectivist VS individualist axis
- Overhauled diplomacy, federations, leaders with their own ambitions and agendas, and a proper spyionage system
- Proper ground combat, superweapons, planet-busters, fleet formations, maneuvers, even moar endgame crisis
- Unique victory conditions and ascension paths for each ethos, not only for materialistic / spiritual empires!

I wish they'd fix the rockets which are somewhat useless right now compared to other tech trees. If you start with lasers you get tachyon lances at the end, and if you start with mass drivers you get the giga canon, and you have lots of small upgrades to make then even more powerful as you play on. But if you choose rockets as a starting tech you're going nowhere, the whole tech tree isn't even required for other important tech. It feels very lackluster right now.

In my last game I intentionally picked rockets at the start but had to switch to mass drivers close to mid-game because PD and armor were too much for me.

ALSO BUGS!!!! I play on a mac, so maybe that's the reason behind it, but the game crashes very often. It's not a problem because I play just by myself and the save system never lets me lose more than a few months but that shouldn't happen at all.

I play on a mac and I've had very few (<5) crashes that weren't mod related.
