Dynamic flags - Possibly connected to things like controlling certain territory, or a change in your ruling dynasty (if dynasties are in the game)

Dynamic colony names - So if England colonizes the area of the present-day Massachussets, the name of the province would change accordingly, and the capital would change to something appropriate (Plymouth, presumably). I'm not suggesting the names should continue to change over time to reflect historical reality, but an initial renaming would add flavor and spice things up a bit from one game to the next.

More detail for native countries - Particularly in the Americas. It would be nice if these cultures played a bit more uniquely and were able to survive longer than a couple decades. Even if you don't play as them, this would make colonization more interesting.

More attention for areas outside of Europe in general.

I think the most interesting new idea around is monarch power.

I always thought that monarch's stats shouldn't be predetermined at birth but be suitable to change over the course of their reign. Remember that 3/3/3 king who is meant to be useless but reigns over the 40 most glorious years of your nation's history where he never suffers a rebellion, doubles your borders, expands your trade and creates a network of alliances to last a century? Of course you do, it's happened to everyone. King's stats should grow when they do well and decrease when they do badly. Monarchs should have a "potential" pool, which should probably be visible to show that one or two are destined for greatness and others will never amount to much (helped by advisors etc rather than personal skill) But if your young king wins his agincourt there is no reason why he shouldn't have a high military skill like Henry V.

For other ballance changes I think colonisation should be slowed down, possibly with trading posts being brought back to allow you to claim a large area of land easily but not exert any real millitary control over it. Auto annnex pagans should be dropped for this reason too. Something needs to be done to differentiate North America and Africa from Central/South America.

i'd also like better land trading in and out of peace deals. I understand this will be hard to ballance for the ai, but some effort would be appreciated.

Ooh also get rid of (abstract if necessary) pirates the whole 1 barque/galeon in every other port in the new world just made the naval ledger really cluttered, it wasn't hard to optimise just time consuming. I would much prefer a small cost per overseas colony or a decrease in naval forcelimits or something to represent the need for anti pirate patrols.

I think Slaves should just tie into an overall trade system. IE Slaves are a good produced in Africa, that's demanded in plantation regions (growing cotton, sugar etc.), and like all goods provide some kind of bonus to provinces that it's provided to (EG some kind of production bonus).

Ooh!

First, I want to say that Paradox's "let's not offend anybody" policy is BS. History has atrocities, deal with it. In all of Paradox's games you can start wars of conquest that massacre tens of thousands of people. In Crusader Kings you can murder babies. Slavery and genocide fit in perfectly.

Secondly, I'm imagining a system where you "harvest" slaves from a region (the Transatlantic would gain them from Africa, I don't know about the Muslim market), and then sell them as a commodity, with the slaves adding to the total population, possibly as a second population that co-exists with the main one (so that you can have slave revolts and the like).

Internal country matters - factions, faction demands, reactions to diplomatic or economic events, internal struggle for power, better civil wars and realistic rebels, etc. I'm tired of just expanding with homogenous country, I want to make my country prosper and actually see, how it prospers.
Religious minorities - province does not have one universal religion. I'd like to see conversion shifting the balance, sometimes achieving it's goal, sometimes failing, sometimes provoking violent reaction
Economy & production - province does not produce only one good, but larger variety of goods in different amounts...Also separated income from factions (cities, nobility, church...) based on their strength and prosperity
Trade - I'd like to see dynamic trade routes. They had tremendous impact on diplomacy (Silk route, Spice route) and province wealth. Maybe to add "route security" - bandits influencing income form particular route etc.
Diplomacy - Coalitions and defensive alliances, alliances against particular country etc.
Colonization - adding trade posts, ability to colonize undeveloped nations provinces, colonial "diplomacy"...
Military - something like Magna Mundi had would be awesome

Not offending anybody is probably more about not wanting EUIV to end up on the TV being lambasted as a 'slavery game' or something. That's bad publicity. That's why Paradox also refuses to cover the holocaust in HoI.

One thing I would like to see is a change in the way exploration is handled. Unlike the player, the rulers of the time had no way of knowing where valuable lands might be found, so why not have events where explorers come to your ruler asking you to sponsor an expedition in some vague direction? The original explorers weren't really part of the armed forces of the countries they worked for, the way they're modeled in the EU games.

I want to see a dynastic system similar to CK so we can see Henry the VIII's problem with trying to have a son. Also, I would like to see more in depth democracies and election systems like we have in Victoria 2.

Another thing that belongs in a museum next to the old BB system is EU3's religious tolerance mechanic. Countries should have different tolerance modifiers for each religion. Muslims shouldn't see Hindus the same way they see Orthodox Christians. Protestants shouldn't have the same sense of spite toward Calvinists that they naturally have for Catholics.

And Indian Muslims shouldn't see Hindus the same way as Arabian Muslims would.

Well, you could mess around with that using modifiers. Like a decision for Muslim states whose capital is in India which gives a modifier adding +2 to the tolerance of Hindus, for example. This makes much more sense than a Hindu tolerance decision which gives tolerance to every heathen religion on earth, I think.

I would like to see the Ottomans see the same level of dedication the HRE, Shogunate or Papacy got. After all the main time frame of this game plays in a time where all of Europe united against this threat from the East. Adding new domestic politics options is a key aspect the game needs.

Same could be done to muslims in europe, like if karaman sultanate would take over and move capital to greece, it would also propably become more tolerant.
