It's great that EU4 will have an improved tutorial, but it's a tough nut to crack.

What has struck me about how much more accessible Civilization has been than EU is how limited the player's options in Civ are at the beginning. It's easy to learn because there's not much to learn. As more becomes possible, more is learned, and the player has periods of time to absorb the new information.

Now, this isn't possible in the base design of EU4, but I would like to see an "easy" mode with a simplified game system, one which expands slowly as time goes on. DP sliders are abstracted early, many options reduced to "yes/no" or automated/approximated (e.g. minting "none" "just enough" "a lot"). As time rolls by, more options become possible, and eventually new players move to the "advanced" version.

You can never hope to drop people into the cockpit of a modern fighter and give them a tutorial which explains it. They need to learn in a much more basic atmosphere, then advance again and again as they understand each more difficult type of aircraft.

I'd also like to see a re-working of technology, but that probably adds complexity so I'll mention that later and hope nobody reads both posts.

I'd like to see so many thing, oh so many things...
But I don't believe it's sensible to hope that they're going to add any new features at this point (it is a very early point but they probably already have a list of features and it can only grew shorter in time).

1. The ability to release your own fictional countries. There should be hundreds of releasable entities within nations, almost every province should be able to go solo if need be
2. No more permanent terra incognita. Depending on your tech levels, various "difficult" areas like inland-Africa, in-land South America or north Siberia should be colonizable to a more difficult level!
3. Minor religions such as Judaism or Mormons
4. More flexible country borders, ie a province could be split between several nations.
4b. If not the above, then more provinces

They have an accurate enough war system, nothing hinders them from having a working, yet quite abstract, slave trade system. Especially given the impact it had for America and Africa.
That's because it's going to offend people. Paradox don't want that kind of bad publicity. Of course, it probably already offends people ("you racists are completely ignoring the vital role of African slaves in the settlement of America!") but at least that doesn't end up plastered all over the news websites.

Paradox is not Rockstar North. While GTA can focus on such hot topics, it won't really bring much to do it with EUIV. That said, with the new trade system I am sure trade routes from Africa -> North America carrying slaves will be a profitable thing to run

I think Slaves should just tie into an overall trade system. IE Slaves are a good produced in Africa, that's demanded in plantation regions (growing cotton, sugar etc.), and like all goods provide some kind of bonus to provinces that it's provided to (EG some kind of production bonus).

The problem here is like all other PI games except for Rome, it assumes that the only slave trade that exists is the Atlantic-African slave trade. Before the Atlantic trade even go off the ground, the Muslim world have a thriving slave market for centuries. If any change is to be made to slavery, I'd like for it to be changed to reflect that a Muslim slave trade exists and it isn't purely race based either.

:/

Yea, I guess. Transatlantic Slave trade was however the single most important factor in the forming of America and Africa. It also had a widespread effect on Europe.

While this is true, the game is called Europa Universalis. The African-American slave trade influenced European states much more than the Muslim slave trade ever did. Now, the game is Universal, but the main emphasis will most likely always remain in Europe

Flags and coats of arms separated. Flags look horrible as coats of arms and vice versa. It would be better if there were parallel systems and parallel graphics for each.

Slavery-based events can be modded in anyway, African or middle eastern. Why ask Paradox to risk their reputation on something that the community can put together instead?

1. Demography.
emot-colbert.gif
If I don't have to hack in population growth via the event system I will be a very happy bunny.
2. Rework of cores. Seperation of the concepts of local acceptance of your rule and having a valid cause to go to war. Furthermore, division of the latter concept into inalienable core territories and weaker "claims". A core gain/loss system that's more nuanced and context-sensitive.
3. An AI that's more eager to reclaim core territories would be nice. And tries to find rational borders. It can't be that hard to teach it that a high isoperimetric ratio is better than a low one, surely? :(
4. On that note, a Turkey that could at least be confused for a power if you squint.
5. A war system that lets you pursue multiple goals at once, V2 style. And press objectives on behalf of lesser partners. With the scoring system from CK2, so holding the objective is worth enough to win the war. In short, cannibalise all the best innovations from later games.
6. A colonisation system that doesn't end up with Portugal controlling the entirety of North America between the Atlantic and the Mississippi by the 1600s.

7. And no colonisation of Africa.

8. A map that doesn't grotesquely undervalue India and China, for the love of God. I'm thinking a couple of hundred provinces each in these regions, at the very least.
9. Did I hear someone say "dynamic cultures"?

Something for the appearance and spread of colonial cultures at least.
10. Religious conversion. Wants to be slowed down, I think?

At least between religion groups. Islam should not be making great headway into the Balkans under the Ottomans, or into India. And even within religion groups- by the end of the period the European countries were still full of religious minorities. But in EU3 it's not unusual to see the religious map painted in block colours by the 18th century.
11. Speaking of religion: that event where a Catholic province in the middle of Germany spontaneously decides to convert to Orthodox? Let's not do that.
12. Something to do when not at war! Or, at least, more. More in the way of internal development, factions etc. Make changing governments/policies more of a process that you can interact with than a thing that just happens every so often.
13. What else? :/ Dynamic flag/country name changing from V2. Autonaming countries for dynasties from CK2. That sort of thing.

I think I'm out.
