I'd like to see the option to randomize things. EU has great game mechanics, but for many of us it is always limited by the fact that, as long as it is the real world being portrayed, there is a drive to make real historical events possible and even likely.

When i say randomize "things" this could mean everything, right down to the continents. But it could take a middle ground of retaining the same basic continents and countries but changing core provinces and resources. But in particular, there should be an option to randomize the New World. In the case of the new world, using the real is new world does not create a realistic situation for the player, because in reality nations did not know what was out there.

No, because there would be a default name you could keep if you wanted. This would just be optional (just as renaming your kids is in CK).

That's fine. One of the 1st things I have to do with mods is getting rid of the "rename" events.

EU4 should be like Total War, that the player can command the troops when there is a battle, instead of just looking at the map on the 2 soldiers that's fighting in the air. This should be really awesome, but I know that it will not be such a thing. But I love EU anyways, it's a really great game and I really looking forward to EU4 :D

2D units? Counters perhaps?

The map looks marvelous.. however is it possible to project 2D sprites over the 3D map? Something like counters option from HOI....

I really hate having systems resources wasted on 3D graphics calculations.... and the 3D sprites arent that appealing...

Agreed. I even think it's too much to give control, over breaking action, to the player. (Duck and cover.)

I think it comes up every time a PDS game comes out. I asked for CK2. :D

What I would prefer is only having direct control over the army that my king or marshal is commanding. A grand strategy should be available, but the AI would control the other armies fighting under your arms. Sort of like: Defend the Rhine, or conquer Quebec (or Tibet or Tunisia...). Sorry, I'm a military historian by trade, so I have to press for realism sometimes. :p

What I would like to see after playing EUIII and going on a land grab spree is the ability to have war scale to the situation. Let me explain, I understand why the war score system is the way it is and that it is their to stop yo from destroying a big nation in one war just because of some rogue situation. Although, I think the AI should have some awareness of the situation it is in. So the things I would want the AI to take in to account when you try and negotiation is this.
1. How big is my army compared to the visible army of my enemy.
2. How much of my territory is occupied compared to my enemy.
3. How many units can I produce.
4. How many casualties am I taking compared to my enemy.
5. What is my war exhaustion.
6. How far am I in debt(If at all).
7. How high is inflation.

If all these things are negatives like high war exhaustion, in massive debt, no armies or provinces. Then the cost of their provinces should be worth less war score. I hope this makes sense.

To be blunt, I didn't have any desire to see an EU4 before and don't have one now. I'd have liked them to make an expansion to EU3 that added some of the really nice features that have been added to other Paradox games, such as Muslim countries being dynamically known by the names of their dynasties, or the changing war aims (or something like that) that's apparently in Victoria II. But apparently we're just getting another extremely Eurocentric game, except that this time it'll be multi-player focused as well. I've never played EU multi-player and never will, so I'm really not expecting EU4 to have anything of interest to me.

It may sound out-of-spectrum'ish, but I assume as in HTTH, EU IV will have dynasties incorporated to it. I also assume monarchs will be more prevalent and portrayed through pictures (judging by the gamespot video). Thus I hope it will bear some similarity to CKII, and that your dynasties rulers will have some specific portraits to them as to make different countries rulers more unique (while hardly plausible, one can dream though, right?), I hope your dynasty will have some "inheritable" similarity between the portraits of different rulers. Be it facial or clothing, either is fine by me.

Dynamically changing province borders with strategic resources you can pile on to nearby provinces for your own benefit. Sort of a long fetch... but a man can dream.

To expand, many wars were fought for things like tin mines. Rather than taking the entire province, you just grab the resource you want from that province, and it adds it on to a bordering province, thus changing the province's borders. If you take the capital of a province where you stole the resources, it resets to its previous de jure borders. De jure borders can change after a long period of time, making some provinces small and poor, while making others large and rich. If a province got too large, you could decide to re-evaluate what towns belong to what province. Cities and villages would have their own dialects and cultures. This is a very high bar, obviously.

Yes. In fact, I'd like to see that pushed one step further. Have No Global Alliances. All alliances would be limited to specific theaters of action and/or specific targets.

For example, England and Russia could be allied against France, but Russia wouldn't be able to call England into its wars against Sweden. Or England and the Netherlands could be allied in Europe, but wouldn't be allied outside of that region and could even be on opposite sides of colonial wars without breaking the European alliance.

Which would prevent wars like the War of Spanish Succession, or the Seven Years War, where European (and non-European) powers fought over multiple theatres.

lol hence the name EUROPA universalis...

I for one am very pleased with the announcement of EU4 and hope that there are many indepth mechanics for European countries alone! heaven forbid!

I thought Johan explicitly mentioned there would be no pictures of rulers.
