Do they still want it?
Not since the Commies took over. Unless Vladimir is a surprise Romanov and takes up Tsardom Status
Do they still want it?
But in the Victoria Era they definitely wanted it. And not only for religious, but for practical reason: With Constantinople they can finally bypass Turkish control over the Bosphorus and freely operate in Mediterranean Sea.
Hella this.
I Kinda wonder though if they wanted to have direct land control all the way to it though, like taking Dobruja and some of Bulgaria, would they try to take over the rest of Romania and Bulgaria? puppet states? Unite all the Slavs?
The ambitions could be nigh limitless.
Taking the mouth of the Danube was another of their (secondary) strategic aims. Afaik they actually did control it for a while but had to give it up after the crimean war. So, yes, I think they would have liked a continuous land connection along the western shore of the black sea.
bleh, that map doesn't look good in my mind.
Of course, in the event that the Russians control the bosporus, they also control the black sea. So they wouldn't really need to have a land connection to constantinople since they could easily connect it to their domains through a steam boat connection from Odessa or Sebastopol.
This seems more realistic if only because Bulgaria and Romania would clamor for their land.
You do know that neither country even existed at the time of the crimean war?And in any case, a triumphant Russia is not going to be deterred by the opinions of barely half-formed tiny countries. It's not like they could have opposed Russian armies and Russian diplomacy on their own (our even together).
They would take whatever bone Russia deigns throwing at them.
yeah I'm not saying they would go to war, but it would sabotage relations as they would see those lands as rightfully theirs.
Bulgarian principality and autonomous Eastern Rumelia appeared after the war in 1878 and the following congress of GPs. The Dunabian principalities united after the war.I was under the impression that Bulgaria did not exist until after the Crimean War? And Wallachia and Moldavia were still separate states?
Why did Russia surrender instead of doing the retreating deep and scorching the earth thing like in all the other wars ?

They would not exist until after the war, yes. But when they did come about, they would have friction with Russia over lands that were ethnically Bulgarian/Romanian.
Gosh I can't believe how hard it is to explain this![]()
No guarantee that Bulgaria forms though - or it might owe it's existence to Russia
And in no position to argue about it.
When in doubt... IMRO.It wouldn't argue... It would just strain relations. Bulgaria would want that land, even if it could do nothing about it.
