Well, depending on how the civil war goes, one could make the argument that all states of the American union could be just that--sovereign, independent states. Now that would be cool.

I do think that a republic was almost founded in California. Maybe there was one; I'm not up on American frontier history.

I would like to see an American empire, though. After all, it has acted like one from time to time. Not as much as Europe, mind you, but still, one wonders what would have happened if America just took the crown and saw how far it could go.

I claim this land for New Jersey!

Yep, Bear-Flag Republic, 1846. Founded by John Frémont. Joined the U.S. soon afterwards.

Actually, with the Bolshevik revolution, several regions were, for a time, given or considered for differing degrees of autonomy. Crimea, some other Tatar regions. I can't remember the Russia, but it was a program of study concerning homelands.

Those were the early, idealistic days of the whole matter, so naturally such times were short-lived, but if Paradox wanted to, there could be as many nations made of Russia as there are regions.

I know that no game can meet this much potential, but I wonder what they will do.

There were Zionist activists in the Ottoman Empire for at least a hundred years before the founding of the Israeli state. I'd say that at the very least, the vassal of Palestine/Israel should be an option.

Twice the chilean forces occupied most of Peru due to wars in the XIX century. Both times she also defeated bolivia.
So Instead of returning territories, what about annexations? and then liberation of ecuador... the partition of argentina with brazil ... paraguay declared chilean zone of influence while brazil puts down the uruguayan rebels? I really do hope this game is going to be _difficult_, though I doubt it will. It's not fun to conquer the world with some unimportant backwards little country like in EU.

1. I think Siam will be interesting, squeezed in between the British and French colonial empires, trying to do the Westernization the Japanese did.

2. Trying to fulfill Bolívar's dream of a united America as Colombia, Venezuela or something would also be thrilling (I do hope Paradox will make this possible somehow).

3. Also, of course, trying to get the Finns back in line and keep the Norwegians quiet as Sweden.

4. Uniting Italy as one of the small Italian state is hopefully difficult, and if so high on my list

How about transform Greece into reborned Byzantine Empire? If I remember correctly, in early day, Greece considered itself to be a heir of Byzantine Empire and desire to rebuild it. Am I remembering correctly?

Just read the boards and you'll find out how correct you are.

I would say that Greece will have CB claims or some Victoria variant on Turkish lands from Salonika to Istanbul down to Izmir. From their independence in 1821(?) to the end of World War One, they were trying to get them. Got a fair bit--almost all of it--until Atatürk shoved them into the ocean.
