I think your army would have thought it impenatrable if that big white blob were the peaks of the Himalaya or the glaciers of Greenland. Soem areas need to be PTI, because they are places that people wouldn't send an army to even today...

Who cares where it was? You have to go in there and find out for yourself, just like the Europeans. I DO think that places like the Himalayas or the glaciers in Greenland should be VERY hard to get into, but I want to be stopped by 'Oh, I can't finance another expedtion in there!' or 'There is probably nothing worth of interest in there, so I'll just forget it.'

I dont want to be stopped by this gaping white hole in the map!

Instead of having explorer and conqusiter, it will be better to have a event.
For EG:
The discovery of the new world event:
An adventurer has come to your court and requested for an audience. He claims to have heard tales of a new wonderous land full of gold and silver, and wanted a chance to find this land for the glory of our monarch. The estimated cost is X ducats.
If the player agree, he will have a random chance to find the new world, otherwise, the adventurer goes from country to country to source for funds. Then Columbias's discovery of the new world can be emulated.
Then, when a country found a piece of land, it can send troops to build a trading post. (about 100 troops + ducats)
Further exploration will be then from that single TP.
And all countries should have this chance. But countries like China will face a high cost and lack of adventurer (like in rl).

But if it's a genuinely random event, you could get into situations where the New World isn't discovered in "game terms" until 1600. While that might be possibly historical, it certainly isn't something that would encourage me to buy the game!

Mmm, but think of the focus on mainland Europe! Think of the battles when all players have to focus on Europe... It could be very interesting!

It would be exactly like it is now-except without the extra-European "light relief".:( :D

Mmm, maybe... But it would be fun to see if Spain would manage without the income from the overseas territories she's always taking.(she tends to monopolise most of the goldmines).

She grabs the Aztec goldmines, sure, but these days she rarely grabs the Inca ones too. The latest IGC even makes her less likely to colonise the Antilles, so that's more rich provinces she doesn't get.

Spain hardly grabs the majority of the goldmines-the problem is that the AI nations rarely build more than a TP on the free ones they find.

I couldn't agree more. It gets really silly when you see England building nothing but TPs in the cotton and tobacco belts of eastern North America. Which seems to happen almost always.

It needs fixing for EU2!:(

Yes... FORTS! Or actually a way of getting the AI to understand the meaning of land development... Spain did a pretty good job of defending herself last time I played, since she actually built colonial troops... Fortifications should also be a priority for the AI, since this plowing through her posessions with a 3k army is neither challenging nor historical...

TP's on goldmines is also an idea someone would have to put a stop to!

I like the idea for a special event deciding what has been expored and what hasn't. However the number of explorers you get should be according to your domestic policy. Therefore if you want to turn the Mughal Empire into a colonial power you could but you would have to pay the price for making the neccessary reforms in the form of stability.

DEATH TO PTI!!!! DEATH TO PTI!!!!

China was a well known of country to itself.. even the Roman Empire in its heyday had explored china.. sent traders to the emperor even. The arabian desert was a very important place, I mean hey... any place that could've conquered the Sassanid Persians and the Byzantine Empire's southern provinces in only 100 years? It had better not be PTI...

And America. DEATH TO PTI!!

And Africa. DEATH TO PTI!!

And South America. DEATH TO PTI!!

And... need I go on?

DEATH TO PTI!!!!

Okay, you hate PTI. I also hate thecrude native model. Fact is, f Paradox let us manipulate the maps by ourselves, it would solve this problem. It could also work with various province related files by tying those files to maps.
