3D games do not need to be large. This one is only 97kb and looks every bit as good as Doom 3.
That said, EUIII will probably be quite large.

Wow. That's absolutely fascinating. How in God's name can they cram all that into 95k, regardless of compression? That's not too shabby at all for the size of a .txt file

EUIII on the other hand, will have massive data files being accessed simultaneously, as well as lots of nice graphics files, as well the map itself of course. Also, being as everything will be moddable, it won't just be squashed into one or two hardcoded .exe files, which means it will be quite large.

Still, such is the price we must pay for motability and wonderful GFX :D

I'm more concerned about what kind of processing power this little beauty will need.

Actually, I'm not concerned at all. I've already concluded I'll need a new computer. :D

Well, it's not that expensive - even a dvd writer for pc is only going to be somewhat more expensive than the game.

But, considering it might be close to the complexity of R:TW, and it will have an ample (?) playlist with it, 2-3 GB is the mark.

I'm going to predict a single CD, with circa 350-500MB for the fundametal game, and the rest being associated media files and a PDF manual.

This isn't based on anything less than a feeling that paradox isn't going to break a 1 CD barrier just yet.

I don't know mate... it's all 3d like Crespo said, has a sort of Rome Total War look to it, and that takes some 2.5Gb. Even without needing to animates landscapes soldiers etc, I can easely see Eu3 going to the 1gb.

The fact that a big part of this game will be rendered in polygons is not going to take up alot of space, since the coordinates (or what you might call them) takes up very little space in terms of data (its like a 3d text document if you know what i mean  :) )... The main issue will be the amount of images shields and textures, and the quality of these, adn also as said before sounds and music.

For example if you take a ps2 game and play it in high res (could be a port to pc), you will notice that the textures are more muddy compared to average pc games, which is due toe lack of memory ressources compared to pc... ofcourse this is not the case with the new(xbox360etc.)/next(ps3) generation of consoles, since much off these issues has been solved do to the vastly improved memory capacity of these., which truly enables HD gaming on consoles with high res textures...

My bet would be about 1gb for eu3 aswell though...

The graphics aren't nearly as sophisticated as those of games with huge multi-gig installations. There's a fair chance it'll fit on 1 CD and I'd be very surprised if it didn't fit on 2.

No one does procedural content generation commercially now and no one will until Spore comes out. That's just a neat tech demo.

All the media is generated algorithmatically instead of stored on the disk. That's why it takes forever to load and takes up hundreds of megabytes of memory.

While I can't answer definitively, I believe it's safe to say that it will be made to fit on a single CD, so no need to panic. :)

This makes me panic :)
In fact, that's encryption question. There were so many amazing games that fitted on one CD before (however they didn't require DirectX 9 :) ). I hope that system requirements will be ok for me. Want to play it on my laptop. I know, that there are no previous information and the only way to check - to run it :) . (Cause I have nice calculation characteristics, but my video is just 128 shared video - Intel 915GM/910GML Express Chipset and it's ability to run The Game is under a question on unofficial FAQ thread...)

Word.

Anything too big would make it quite cumbersome for Gamersgate, but the 3d engine had me a bit worried and led to possibility of a game size in range of Civ4. That would be no fun for download version. :(

What I'd like to know is: How big will savegames be? Because Victoria's 5-10 MB causes a 5-10 second delay for me, and I know CK has bigger saves...
