I think we need more info on how unrest affects slaves productions. Why separate their production if unhappy slaves generate unrest that does affect production then you might as well just leave their production tied to happiness right?
I would imagine that unrest wouldn't affect a slaves production. That's part of being a slave.

I hope that Pacifists are happier with less defensive armies :)
Yes, it'd make sense for them to protest militarisation. But right now the only "pacifist" faction we know of is Isolationist, which favours strong deterrent.
I expect their main issues of purely pacifist faction will be something like:
- no more than 6 defensive armies on any planet
- no more than 12 mobile armies (any other than defense armies)
- less than 75% of naval capacity used
- be part of federation
We'll have to wait and see, since in game like Stellaris, those issues might be unpractical.

That's what Spiritualist and Authoritarian are for. Spiritualist gives a flat reduction to Unrest, and Authoritarian reduces a percentage of slave Unrest.

With the new system, unhappy slaves can affect everybody's production, not just their own
wait, why does unrest affect output at all when happiness already does? I thought it was just an indication of how likely a revolt will happen. If I'm a citizen living with utopian living standards and I'm happy as hell, why would the slaves plotting to revolt have an affect on my output until it actually happened?

I don't really understand why pacifists would care about defensive armies, or a defensive military in general. unless pacifists means you don't defend yourself when attacked I don't see why they wouldn't absolutely love a defensive military.

If Unrest requires armed soldiers to patrol the streets to keep production high, I'm pretty sure it's a little bit more than the slaves being unhappy. It's more like the slaves are terrorizing the population, and generally disrupting life.

Regarding cattle revolts, if earth was invaded by xenos who ate us I would imagine it would take many troops to keep 6 bn of us from saying nope.

So I guess the three planet example is fair. I would expect revolts. Only way to keep planet happy is via large scale massacres to reduce pops and put your own on the planet or via collaborators.

Maybe there should be like a massacre button after taking a planet; your troops go do their thing and reduce pops/terrorise the population for a few years. And if you can't get the planet in line after that modifier drops off then you have revolts.

The new tweets about the Unrest events have me wondering exactly how they're implemented, but I do wish that the resulting insurgency was baked into the system rather than handled with events. I guess they can't really though, since there is no manpower to drain and armies are such an insignificant cost that no planet could ever win the war of the flea.

If it were me doing the designing, I would make robots require consumer goods as though they were living on Subsistence, and without the happiness penalty meaning anything. For balance's sake I'd probably still require the energy cost, just like organics require food. Droids are more advanced so would need Impoverished Conditions, and Synths function like ordinary Pops that need energy instead of food.

At least that's how I'd do it.

Non-Sentient bots are locked to 100% happiness at all times, so consumer goods is a total non-issue regardless. They shouldn't consume goods - if they do, that has to be considered a bug.

Sentient ones, on the other hand, have as much right to demand giant televisions as any organic.

They shouldn't consume goods - if they do, that has to be considered a bug.
There are maintenance concerns to think about, however.

Besides, for any non-Authoritarian empire, having a Pop that only required 0.50 consumer goods would already be a boost. The fact that they didn't suffer from unhappiness would be even better!

Edited original post a bit based off of the latest stream. Slave-using empires seem to have an easier time now since armies reduce Unrest by ten each rather than five, and slave processing facilities are revealed to seriously slash their unrest generation.
