In the demo, I played as Sweden in my first game. In the final game, I started as Brandenburg.
I started off as Portugal in my first game and then subsequently began a Sicily campaign. I did not play through with Portugal but did finish the Sicily game.

A question not very interesting, as it seems to me.
It is better it would be to ask, what country is the best choice.
Make attempt to choose Oman at the start of game. Oman is ready for westernisation and have shiite bonus to morale.

my first three games were as russia back in the old euI days. i remember being so intimidated by the game it was months before i made myself learn it. man o man what fun since then. i remember one weekend in particular. my wife and son were away for the weekend and i had the whole house to myself.
i played my second game as russia and by now had a pretty good handle on things. i spent that entire weekend in front of the computer with brief pauses for food, elimination and not until absolutely necessary, sleep.
it was the first game i played were i could colonize outside of siberia. i don't remember how but i got maps of s.e. asia and there were colonies up for grabs. i started building this little empire down there, leaning forward like a guy cheering on his favorite at a horse race as each colonist neared their destination...."c'mon, you can do it, your almost there....YES!...atta boy!...a few more mailboxes on Pushkin-Siam street!
and then there were the wars. i must say i never had as much tension since those euI days, the ai seemed way more aggressive. at any rate everytime i went to war it ended up being against at least 2 and usually 3 major powers. i was always duking it out with poland, sweden, the ottomans and persia. i won some and i lost some, i cursed and nearly cried at times but boy was that game fun.
i still have the original game and was thinking of loading it up just for the nostalgia rush.

First Paradox game I played, was EUI.
First game was as Russia... It took me a 10-year war to defeat Pskov.
Myfirst EUIII game was as Muscowy... Warfare experience from Victoria and HoI (1 and 2) helped a lot

I started out as Denmark, and got my a** kicked by Sweden in the 1453 war.
I quit in disgust, started a new game as Castille to learn the tricks (especially warfare), and dominated easily. Castille is only good for learning, they're to easy for anything else.
Then I started my third game, again as Denmark, and that's still going strong. I'm currently writing a major pedagogic assigment, so my actual playing is limited... but after the 1st of May, then I shall triumph!

Portugal!As portuguese I like to try first my country in grand strategy games like EU3. It's so rare to find my country in other strategy games, that when it appears, I always choose it. I'm still in the middle of it, and loving it - my America's empire is kicking!

Well, I played Poland for about 10 years and got decreased to one province... then I did a game with Japan and now I have half of America in my hands and currently waging war on the Ottomans. Oh, and the Papal State and the HRE (Denmark) are my vassals.

Mongolia first game ever in EU3 - first game with any real progress/survival: Japan.
