what use are women for a muslim ruler?

Other than marriage alliances, how can female relatives be used when playing as a muslim ruler?

As a christian nation, females and matrilineal marriages are very useful to create Manchurian successions (marry the 3rd son in line matrilineally, when they have a kid, remove the 2nd & 1st in line (and their children) and a generation or 2 later you've got a relative on the throne of scotland). But I don't see those possibilities as a muslim. Am I missing something?

I don't think you are missing anything. Female characters just don't have much of a role in muslim gameplay. There are marriage alliances, and flavour events, but otherwise they are ornamental.

I believe they can pass down claims. I married a Princess of Rum, and had a son and a daughter from her. I died, and then my heir pressed his brother's claim on the Kingdom of Rum.

They can be Spymasters just like Christian women, they provide marriage alliances and they might pass on claims. You can also marry Sayyid women in order to make your sons Mirza which is a minor but handy trait.

And lots of wives and lots of daughters means lots and lots of alliances... all those other emirs in Spain are interbreeding (and interalliances) like mad.... so you gotta keep up.
