well sateliltes also can only trade with yourself, thus are nice trading partners. Since they also start at +200 relations, they're nice trading partners. Other than that, there's not really a reason i've seen to not annex them except if they're too big to swallow. Those sateliltes for examples France give a boat load of prestige.

I satellite if I can't annex but I don't want to deal with the country again. If the nation in question was a former opponent, it's also a nice way to make sure they aren't any trouble in the future.

I never satelitte... not worth it IMO

I think satelliting is very useful against nations I have many cores on. USA vs Mexico is a good example.

And satelliting your worst enemy is always useful. Saves you from having to fight again after the peace treaty expires.

It can also be *extremely* useful to create a satellite from previously conquered territory because it reduces badboy. It’s the only way to get a quick badboy reduction.

Yeah, as france i recently overran the italian peninsula, satellited two sicilies and kept giving them territory until they became italy. it really helped my badboy & as this was late in the game and i didn't want to go through the industrialization process again it was worth it. plus it divided me from austria.

That is true... if you can't completley defeat Mexico but you can satlitte them it's a very good idea as the US to do that but thats the only time I use it

A nasty trick is to create a satellite just before you lose the provinces to your enemy. You get the badboy reduction and it sometimes stops the aggressor in his tracks. :D

I did that once in HoI. ;) Yes it is a very, very dirty trick, but when you're in danger of losing a foothold some where it can save your butt.

When facing a war vs. another big power, I often go for satellite rather than territorial gains. The utility of a never-hostile France, Austria, or Russia should not be underestimated for the German player, for instance. Much better than gaining a few of their non-state-culture cores and thus badboy, then having to fight them again in five years.

Works great with HOI because I don't think they become your puppets right? Which means they don't join ur alliance so theyre not at war with the country you're trying to stop

Sattelites are your puppets who don't do anything except defend you should someone declare war on you. that's about it. They don't give you anything although realistically they should probably give you any techs they have that you don't but that would be so easily exploited it's not even funny.
