What type of content exactly is Battle of the Bosporus? DLC? Expansion? Pack?

On Paradox's own store page it is listed as a DLC.

On the Steam store page it's not listed as any specific type of content.

On Hearts of Iron IV's wiki page it's listed as an Expansion.

What exactly is this?

Dlc and expansion, while generally understood as different things aren't strictly mutually exclusive terms. But the best description is country pack. Still technically a dlc as you download it, and charitably speaking, it does expand the game content wise so kind of an expansion.

What the wiki says is not authorative, it is not a developer source. Likely the infobox template was copy-pasted from another DLC. I changed it to "Country pack" just now. In Paradox parlence "Country pack" and "Expansion" are both types of "DLC", see https://hoi4.paradoxwikis.com/Template:DLC

The only game-feature we know that it is adding is in-game-video-tutorials. (which is a patch feature)

Everything else is same. So It's only a flavor pack.

It´s a like all other named DLC´s (DoD, TfV) an Country Pack for important Minor States, which will come earlyer or later and not integrated with an big Major DLC yet to end an started, but not finished Part.

In TfV for example are the Commonwealth-States. In DoD and BfB are the Balkan-States finished. They are small to medium with an medium Patch and integrate like the Comrades said already Focusses for missing Countrys, new Decissions, Pictures, small new Elements as well as Repairs, Bugfixes and such for existing things.

Don´t expect much Changes and new Things there like an R & D Tree for Fighters or so.

The bigger named DLC´s (MTG, WTT and La Ressistance) are more for the Major Countrys and some new integratet important Minor States like Mexico, Poland, Mandschuko and similar. That are the big ones and integrate new Elements like R & D, World Map Changes, Economy and the other bigger things. That DLC´s get longer in Development incl. the big Patch.

All of them are Expansions to the Base Game, which comes out End 2016. I personally play only with all Expansions, because the Game needs that. An 2nd WW without full working Commonwealth, an full working Resistance and Spy System, the Balkan-States and more is a No Go! With the 5 upcomming and useable DLC´s the Game get in the right Direction and go further that Direction.

Esp. after the Refit from Airforce and Army R & D as well as Buildup-Refit, which will come and is a must have.

Basically they now distinguish between Country pack and Expansion, both are DLC.
BFTTB is a country pack like DoD
LaR, MtG, WtT are all expansions
TfV is kind of in between, pretty big for a country pack, and contained quite a few mechanics but nothing game changing as the other expansions.
The plan as far as I understand it is to to have two DLC per year. One country pack and one expansion.

Exactly Duke_Dave, that what I read too. The last 2 big Expansions MtG and La Ressistance were special Case. MtG to fix the complete Navy-Problems from the Base Game (End of 32 Bit Development). As well as La Ressistance after the 2 Conversion Patches to 64 Bit Development as first of the upcomming new DLC´s programmed on the much easyer fixable 64 Bit-Programming.

Now they can splitt the Team again to make an smaller DLC (Country Pack) and a big one (Expansion) with Patches.

But the first ones TfV, DoD and WtT were a fast must have to make the Game more interessting and bring in missing Things which weren´t able to bring in the Base Game.

I've read all of your replies and thanks for the explanations. My OCD skyrocketied when I saw the Steam Store page didn't categorice what type of content Battle for the Bosporus was going to be.
I hope Paradox will look into it and name it 'Expansion', like they have done with all of their previous themed DLC's

I'd prefer they call it what it is - a country pack, as they themselves have repeatedly called it. To call it an expansion would be misleading, since it doesn't expand the game overall in any ways like the other expansions do. It merely adds a lot of flavour to a few specific nations.

If they end up calling Battle of the Bosporus a Country Pack, I think they should go back to Together for Victory and Death or Dishonor and rename that Country Packs as well.

I think DoD did introduce vehicle conversions and new axis puppet types and for TfV it was spearheads/autonomy system etc. So they actually contain extra features that do not work withtout them ?

Dalnar that´s correct. The 2 Country Packs (TfV and DoD) bring in special Elements what you announced. That´s why they are in the Expansion Zone. Have checked it yesterday evening.

The DLC´s are seperated in 4 Branches:

1. Expansions (TfV, DoD, WtT, MtG and La Ressistance)

2. Content (3 of the DLC´s incl. BftB)

3. Musik and Graphics (all Music, Graphics)

4. all others (forgotten)

You can check it, if you open the Launcher and then the DLC Branch. There all of your DLC´s get listet in one of that Categorys. I have all, so all 4 are used.
