What do you guys do with vassals that hate you and are really not going to be in your alliance as a practical matter. I know you could always give them so much money that they love you but is this always the best thing to do.

Also, is there a limit to the number of vassals you can have? I know there is a limit to the number of your vassals you can have in your alliance.

Thanks.

With time, if your BB isnt high, your relations will improve. But the best option is always try to give some money to improve the relations. BTW you dont need to have high relations to be able to invite your vassal for your alliance.

Yes there is a limit of how many vassals you can have: The number of countries that exists :)

Also look for the normal reasons a country might hate you: Different religion and such.

It's probably not worth it, but theoretically you could forceannex them, then release them as a vassal again. That resets your relations at +150, but if something's driving it down it'll just start falling again.

While playing Russia, I managed to vassalize TVER since I could not annex them after a stupid war they declared. They are at -200 with muscovy of course. And I am not yet the central country that formed my alliance. So, I cannot just pay them and invite TVER in.

But they did a generous thing and cancelled their vassalization with me, and I later cancelled military access then they declared war without any allies. They don't exist anymore.

But theorietically, had they played smarter, it would have been a point to consider..what to do about vassals that hate you. I am thinking of those times when throwing money at them is always further down on the To Do List. Is it better to keep them around for later or slowly let them go while not building up BB then eat them up in the future.

Your question is a bit too general. It depends on the circumstances. If you're Russia, and you've got a one province Georgia with whom you have -200 relations, then you probably don't want to spend bucket loads of cash trying to improve things.

If you're France, on the other hand, and you have a good-sized Austria as a vassal, and you have -50 relations, then spend away. It'll be certainly worth it.

As I said, it depends on the cimrcumstances. Use your judgement.

Currently I'm playing Bulgaria in an imported CK game and I've had two vassals who don't like me much - Siebenbürgen has been my vassal since early in the game and because they're Protestant, plus the fact that I think they have permanent CB shields on my Romanian provinces, relations started to drop, and now hover around the zero mark... they recently dishonoured my call to join Russia in a war on Sweden. The other vassal was Muslim - the Crimea and they fairly quickly dropped down to -200 because I also owned Kaffa. My response to Transylvanian awkwardness is to do nothing. If they get stamped on by the Austrians next time, tough luck. With Crimea I eventually cancelled the vassalisation, basically inviting Georgia and Russia to destroy them - since Georgia is my vassal too, it does little harm.
