Appoint them according to the stats, high martial for marshal, high diplomacy for chancellor, high stewardships for stewards and high intrigue for spy master.

Tremendous

Court positions add their rating to your monarch's rating, so that a king with 7 stweardship can get to 20 by appinting a rank 13 steward etc. You should allways have these positions filled.

If you hold too much lind directly you need to give away land to raise your efficiency. The courtiers are available as possible vassals.
