What to do with my upcoming CK2 copy?

So I am apparently one of the few people on the forums who hasn't gotten CK2 yet. Of course, I've heard that it's really good, and that it has been Paradox's most polished release. However, I'm not sure I'd be that into playing a dynasty instead of a country, and the game seems a bit overwhelming. Also, I plan to play EU4 a LOT: the NIs, trade system, and all the other improvements means there are 40-50 different countries I want to eventually play in EU4, which will probably take 2-3 years in real life. But then I won't be playing CK2. So, should I wait until I'm bored with EU4 to play CK2(and probably use the converter I'll also be getting) or alternate between the 2 games? I feel like I already know how to play EU4 because of the streams and quill's Let's Plays. But I don't really know how to play CK2, even after looking at some video tutorials (CK2 seems to be more complicated, even if it's supposed to be one of Paradox's simplest games).

Have you tried the demo? If you still don't like the mechanics afterwards, you could always gift or trade it to someone else, as long as you don't activate it on your account

I downloaded the demo, but I haven't tried it yet(since I'm a bit busy and none of the 4 allowed characters seem noob-friendly, but maybe I'm wrong about that). I guess I'll take a look at it, since I don't have any other games to play.

You should def try CK2. It's "easy" because the whole game is essentially about human politics. But it's complicated for the same reason. There are just so many possibilities that may unfold and options which you may pursue. Quite unlike EU, CK is not so much about the ending than it is about the process. No harm just going with the flow and exploring what the game is all about.

Give it a go. I am personally going to give the copy to my friend who has been interested in ck2 for a while, but has never had the motivation to buy it outright.

The main problem I had with getting into CK2 was the lack of connection I felt to whoever I was playing as, especially early on. I don't care what these losers are doing. Who are these people?! Why are there so many names?!

I had infinitely more fun when I used the ruler designer, put in my own surname, and started fresh with no wife and no kids, just the title of Duke of Holland. Eventually I was playing it every opportunity I could get; in the morning, on my lunch break, as soon as I got home, etc. Leading rebellions against the tyrannical HRE, playing a 5 year old duchess whose only block to full ownership of the entire title of Norway was her brother-in-law who was also 5. I just imagined 5 year old kids ordering assassinations on each other. My goodness.

Never felt so good having my dynasty finally claim Frisia. Mm.

Just fire it up, pick something not too high up, and play. You'll get it eventually. As soon as you can get attached to your character and family, you already lost against addiction.

CK2 is sick fun with friends. backstabbing your friend and murdering his entire family is hilarious, before he decides to murder your family and bring you down with him.

Great idea, I did it with my free copy of EU3 we got some time ago with the newsletter. Probably going to do the same with the CKII copy, in case my comp dies I still be able to fullfill my addiction

Uh, play it? After the twitch stream it got me motivated to play just a quick game of CK2. Next thing I know, it's 5AM and my Habsburgs personally own all of the territory in Upper Burgundy and Savoy and are gunning to become Kings of Burgundy. The 1066 start is more fun and balanced by the way.

Keep it & play it, it may seem overwhelming at first but you'll get the hang of it, start as a small nation or duchy and work your way up.
