What to do with Cyprus as Ethiopia?

Hi!

Playing Ethiopia I'v recently acquired Cyprus. Well I have that nice 75 % income malus for it being an oversea province so I was thinking of making it a vassal state. But hell, it can be done. I would probably have to edit the saved game and add it as a core for Cyprus? Or change some other file for it to be releasable? Or I could diplomatically annex Crete (at least try to) and give it Cyprus as a nice orthodox Greek present and all. But would they accept it?

What do you think?

Vassals always buy provinces as long as you have a core on them.

It is still orhodox and I don't plan to convert it for RP reasons. (And it would also take too long :-D )

Cyprus has French culture, so you can't release them as the province of Cyprus is Greek. BYZ had its core removed from Cyprus also, meaning annoyingly the only thing you can do is core it and sell it to a different vassal or sell it to a vassal that accepts Greek already (primary or just has it accepted).

You can always give provinces to a client state, even after founding one because they automaticly gets the province.

Client states are same-continent only though, and Ethiopia is Africa while Cyprus is European. You can give the province over of course, but not to any useful benefit.

I checked with the Ottomans and Great Britannia.
As Ottomans you can create client states in all territory while Hreat Britannia can't create client states in America and India so I would say you can't create client states in provinces that you have oversea penalty in.

Greek is not a French culture in game. Cyprus the province has Greek culture, while Cyprus the country has French.

Well, I probably re-considered. I still got some nice benefits from Cyprus - some production and trade power. It's better than nothing

I'd like to add that you can also get nationalists to spawn if no greek nations exist; they'll get cores on the province when the siege ends, then you can kill the rebels and release it as a vassal.

And also one of the weirdest states in game. The state is Catholic, its only province is Orthodox. The state is French, its only province is Greek. It is Eastern tech, even though the next door neighbors, The Knights, are Western. Exactly the same situation as them, different tech.

Presumably, the Crusaders actually ruling in Cyprus are French. So you have a French ruling minority in a predominantly Greek land.

As Ottomans you can create client states in all territory while Hreat Britannia can't create client states in America and India so I would say you can't create client states in provinces that you have oversea penalty in.

Great Britain (assuming you're talking about territory in the British Isles) is in Europe, and so are the regular Ottoman capitals of Edirne and Constantinople. Still, I also had the option to create a client state in non-distant-overseas North Africa displayed as Provence (didn't check if it would actually work), so you might be right about the overseas thing.

That would mean you can easily cover Asia in client states with the likes of Russia or the Ottomans. Interesting.
