Does anyone know what time battletech is coming out on Tuesday. I’m trying to figure out if I’m working in the morning or taking the whole day off. I live in the east coast of the US. I’ve tried to search online but haven’t had any luck. Also does anyone know if there will be preloading.

The Steam version is DRM free. You could have had both ;)
Steam is DRM. And I say that as someone who has been on Steam since 2009 with hundreds of games bought and installed through it. It's fairly innocuous compared to crap like Origin and uPlay, but it's still a layer between you and your games which can prevent you from playing them. They've made playing offline slightly less terrible than it used to be but the possibility of losing access to your games because Valve goes under or goes scumbag, your account gets locked/banned/stolen, &c. exists.

e: IOW I'm not really concerned about short-term consequences. I'm concerned about whether I'll still be able to do whatever I want with the game I bought twenty years down the line.

From my experience with the beta, you will not need to run Steam to run the game. Once you download it and it is unlocked, you just copy it to a new directory and run it from that directory. No need to run Steam except if there is a patch.

Except that Battletech is actually completely DRM free even through steam. This has been stated over and over. I realize that a lot of (not all) games through steam rely on having steam, but there are also a bunch that do not. I have uninstalled steam a long time ago on an old machine (GASP!! that is not even connected to the internet) and am still able to play a number of games I bought through steam on that machine. I have migrated games I got through steam onto another machine that has never had steam installed and can play them. To say "Steam is DRM" is inaccurate.

There are people still playing the beta skirmish and that was "taken off" steam 3 months ago.

FFS, people.

If a game comes out on Day X, dont take Day X off, take Day X+1 off.

Mmm, unless we are talking a title from a developer known for excellent QA (and there are preciously few of those around), surely if you are going to reserve time in the first place it is better to reserve time a week post launch when hotfixes and possibly a first major patch have been applied.

That way you can spend the limited time you available immediately post-launch on being intrigued by the possibilities and yearning for more rather than playing the minigame of evading and coping with bugs. :)
