Okay, I have a fully patched Steam version of CKII, with all of the DLC. Oddly though, my checksum changes all the time. It switches between several different ones, and I keep seeing new ones. There's LFOE, NFOE, XGCB, and more. It's my understanding that it should stay the same until the version changes or DLC is added. Steam isn't installed in Program Files, and UAC is off, so it's not a UAC issue.
What the story with the checksum?

If you use mods, the Checksum is different.
Also each time you play in the game and then resign, you will get a slightly different checksum, I think it is NFOE.

Indeed the checksum changes every time you resign from a game. I believe it's a measure meant to counter piracy in a non-intrusive way.
It's not. There's no DRM. If you legally bought a Paradox game, you get to enjoy it without having to be annoyed by anti-piracy measures.
It's actually a method to force people to start the game anew before playing multiplayer, as old loaded assets could lead to synch errors otherwise.
The "new" checksum is just the regular one with a changed first letter, though, so the OP shouldn't get wildly different ones or different ones when freshly starting the game. And DLC don't change the checksum either.

Any non-graphical change to the game, any small detail that might one distant day change gameplay, changes the checksum. It is there to ensure fair multiplayer.
Thanks for the replies everyone. No I am not running any mods. The change upon resigning definitely explains a lot of it. I'll keep that in mind and keep on eye on it. Thanks again everyone.
