So I'm just learning the game and playing about with the career mode a bit. Was finishing up a mission to secure a Marik warehouse so the pirates could come clear it out. Just killed the last mech and all the turrets were dead with surprisingly little damage to my own mechs. Got the message that said mission completed and we were to wait for extraction while the pirates looted the place....when lo and behold a jump ship (looked suspiciously like my own Leopard class ) landed on my lance!

Long story short I lost three pilots and their mechs and none were in suitable shape to repair. It cost all my savings to repair some chassis we had in storage and buy another light mech to field a weaker lance and go into the next mission one month from going broke. Seriously, how does that happen? Is it a glitch or did I screw something up? I don't recall any message to NOT be in the base once we liberated it....and how does a drop ship land on a warehouse anyway?

Inquiring minds wanna know. o_O

Yes were standing on the landing point. LOL. pay attention toe the red markers during the movement phase next time. It gives you clues to what you are moving on to like rubble, trees, radiation, landing zone etc...

That was your EMPLOYERS ship coming in to take control of the base not yours. - you were standing on their landing site
The landing site would have been marked by red warning blips when you hover your mouse over them while in movement mode.
Some people miss these if they are rushing their moves and not paying attention
There are also several obvious landing pads you should avoid standing on - Large round raised platform or large flat concrete area

You know, I saw the red marks but assumed they were a warning of ground that would be hard to travel without losing your footing. In the old days (way older than I like to remember...) I recall something in the old table top Battletech about running on paved road giving a higher chance to lose your footing...or something to that effect. In the heat of the moment I assumed that was what it meant as that little patch was the closest to paved road I had seen to that point. Ah well, live and learn. Is why I asked after all. :)

(Yes, I know it's your employers, not Sumire, but this is funnier.)

If you have a save from before that happened, I would reload. It isn't a bug, but I really think they should have removed or changed this.

Avoid standing on the red marked locations. I think the trigger is destroying all of the reinforcements, but I'm not 100% sure on that. With the Leopard generally landing as the mission ends, it really shouldn't be able to land on your mechs (and your should get at least 1-2 rounds warning if it can).

The chance to be landed on by a friendly drop ship is kind of a stupid thing to include. How could that even happen?

Presumably the Leopard has some sort of cameras or a collision detection system or something that would allow it to see that it was about to land on 3-4 big ass metal protrusions.

Surely mechwarriors would have the awareness to notice a gigantic spaceship headed right toward them and the sense to move.

I guess it works as an acceptable rookie initiation. Pretty dumb otherwise.

I like it, it is funny, my only Dekker Death related to such a Situation but i had no warning marks as they either were not there or hidden under the Wood Dekker stood in and finally you win and out of nowhere Dekker gets crushed :D

You have only played this game Right if Dekker has at least died once a hilarious death! ;)

Hey I think everyone does this. I have done it twice. I got careless thought I was outside the landing zone the second time. The first time I was unaware of it. The worst I have heard of was Anders from Paradox doing a demo with Mitch & Kiva. All he had left was a head. Kiva had no idea what had happened, after a minute Mitch realized what ha happened. He asked Anders if a dropship had landed on him and explained about the little red triangles on the ground as marking the landing zones. It was funny.

There was a bug at launch that had other terrain effects, most commonly cover, overriding the warnings. The dropship would land on a forest and there would be no indication of where it would land because all the locations just had the cover indicators. That bug has been fixed.

I have never be caught by this particular disaster. That being said, I now get extra cautious of where I am standing. All of the time. Thanks. Who knows how many virtual lives have been spared by this thread?

I remember first getting caught by the bugged version back in the beta. The base capture mission was stressful, as the OpFor got in a lot of lucky shots and I was close to losing the whole lance, with 3 mechs missing at least 1 torso location. The last reinforcement mech fell, and the Leopard dropped in on top of my least damaged mech. All hit locations destroyed and pilot killed.
