In my current game I have a KK that has a -30 opinion of me for researching AI. I thought it was only the sentient AI (Red) tech and synths that set them off. The only thing I can think of is I have the tech that gives you 5% research (Admin AI) as well as the +1 alternative (Self Aware Logic). I also have two combat computer upgrades (basic and advanced). Which of these are they mad about or is it all of them? Since i'm playing a spiritualist will they get mad if I research the psi combat computer when it pops up?

Thanks in advance

Thank you kindly for the reply. So combat computers are safe its just the research related techs and the buildable pop techs? Makes sense because its the road to skynet. I dont have the policy option to outlaw them yet. I belive that comes with robots? Hopefully my ally wont research them either. Of course there is another Guardian FE to my north that keeps beating up on a federation because different members keep trying to colonize one of its holy worlds so I might have to drop my ally before HE starts something that I can't finish.

You start with the outlawing of AI policy. There's a policy on AI rights, and when the game starts you either have the option to outlaw (enabled by default): No robotic workers allowed, you can't build any robotic pops, and I think, but I might be wrong, it won't allow you any sentient combat computers either. The other option is servitude, which allows you to build robots, droids and synthetics. Once you research Synthetics you get a third option: Civil Rights, which grants your robots full rights, but gives a happiness penalty to non-materialist pops.

But, in short, you always have the option of banning all AIs from your empire, and doing so will keep the FE off your back even if you research AIs, because you're just doing theory, not building actual robots that could rise up.

You start with the outlawing of AI policy.

I know I have seen the policy that you are talking about but I don't have it in my policy tab. I have seen it before but I have never used robots or synths so it has always stayed on outlawed. ( I even purge all robots from conquered worlds) Are you positive it is there by default like slavery and purging or do you have to actually research something for it to show up?

Nevermind I checked the wiki and it says you need robot workers for the policy to show up. Guess I will grab it next time it comes up just to outlaw them. Thank you for the reply anyway.

I think you have to research robots before you can outlaw them. I don't think the FE will actually attack you if you don't research robots, even if their opinion is low. (Not 100% on that.)

For the record, even if you do build robots you can embassy them and they'll probably leave you alone, especially if you have something else boosting relations. Playing xenophile materialists I went all the way to synths while they were more or less right next to me and they never bothered me. It was honestly a little disappointing.

Thank you that's good to know. You are correct you need robots researched in order to outlaw them. Unfortunately I am a "spiritualist fool" -40 and they are repugnant for another -5. Right now I have +25 relations with a maxed out embassy. I'll just grab robots and outlaw them even though I wasn't going to use them anyway. I agree that it sounds kind of disappointing that they let you get that far. I don't know if its possible to "lose" a tech but maybe the KK should give you a warning to stop and if you refuse then they attack with an added goal of erasing the tech from your researched techs.

As far as I know, they demand you outlaw AI first, and probably don't attack if you accept.

I only had the problem once, but when they made the demand I was already almost as strong as them and leading the largest federation in the galaxy while they were all by themselves, so I just told them to bugger off and they went pouting with a -100 penalty to opinion but never attacked. The tooltip over "accepting the demand" said that I would have a "demand accepted" modifier, so I guess it's +100 and they don't attack.

In the end they got eaten by the Scourge, shows what they knew.

That's a pretty funny story. This is my first time with a KK so I wasn't sure what set them off. I started getting scared when I saw that research penalty and didn't even have robots yet. Thought my game might have been bugged but apparently its WAD. The only time I got attacked by an FE was a Guardian because I thought I was big and bad and that 25 tile Gaia world just looked so nice...turns out I was small and pathetic instead. Although I did end up beating them in the end. I think their capital added +500 minerals and energy all by itself. I kept that world and sectored the rest of them.

Robots, Droids, Synths, Administrative AI, Self-Aware Logic and Sentient AI.

So if I'm at -65 already, maybe not a good idea to research synths, or I'd get -135 :p cheers mate

I don't think anything bothers the Keepers of Knowledge anymore short of directly insulting them. I think it'd be neat for them to get mad at you for triggering a machine uprising.

In regards to Enigmatic Observers, the xenophiles, being a genocidal maniac will lower their opinion of you but not enough to punish you repeatedly.

Are they bothered by machine empires? As a rogue servitor, I border them. For now I got a +30 opinion because I'm a clever machine, but do I have anything to fear from them in the future?

Keepers of Knowledge are one of the 'good guy' FEs now, like the Enigmatic Observers. You basically can't piss them off unless you do it deliberately, and even if you do end up at war with them pre-awakening, you can just take the humiliation and carry on with whatever you were doing. In the late game, they can also become Guardians to protect against a crisis.

The worst thing they'll do to you in the long run is if they awaken (and they're not in Guardian mode), they could make you a Satellite: in that case you pay 33% of your science to them, which is obviously going to hamper your research. But they don't plunder your material economy, and you keep your diplomatic freedom (including the ability to wage wars).
