Well, that's the gay way to do it.

Myself I would start conquering muslim nations in a smart and efficient way. Tripoli and Tunisia, then move against Algiers and Morocco. (But yes avoid nations allied with the Ottomans, go for easy pickings to begin with). (Syria is fun ally to have)

Your orthodox neighbours are also an option. Georgia and Russia for example.

Asap you should get out and get colonials though, to better your income and your supply limit.

Also if you are able and have the money build a fleet to block off the ottomans (or wait until they are in war with timurids or castille) and just grab some.

You start as empire, use that holy war CB wisely! Fawk those rebels, be like Alexander the Great! See the movie "Alexander" for reference, you don't have to kiss a number of dudes though, let's leave that to Drattius and his rebels.

Sounds like a sure-fire way to get into the problems that arises from being scattered all over without a strong defensible core. Definitely not a methodical approach.

Better than grabbing a few provs and staying small surely? >_>

Never been problematic for me this strat in SP. I mean he is empire and has holy war. He should use it. I'm not telling him to keep those nations, just release them as vassals.

For what? For defending myself from what it looked like an accusation of piracy?

Excuse me? In no way did I imply you pirated the game. I noticed that you had the EU3 Complete icon for registering your game, so I only wanted to ensure that you were playing the right version, which would be Chronicles.

I am severely offended by your conduct.

All ways are good to victory. And spy actions, are effective, and you dont must ride to second part of world to build power. In provinces that are poor, and by 50 years give you only 10% of tax because no core. Dont mention that poor african provinces slowing you down in tech. :p Byzantium have many cores, rich provinces - ideal for rebel actions. And Byzantium have good missions to take more cores! For Rome, Venice, Sycily, South Italy what is for later.

Rebel actions are also good because all of Greece is full of gwarantee stuff and other idioticy. So better no France around, or big Papal fleet. :p

And remember that Alexander many times use ambush, hit and run tactics. And fight only than he can win, not than only enemy appear. In game you will be just invaded by 60 horde, 60 timurids and 40 ottoman troops and you cant do nothing. So smart and itrigue is key to rebuild empire. :p

I wrote I would release them as vassals.....not keep them. Hence only bonus on tech.

I tried a bit different approach

I tried a bit different approach; of course it involved minting beyond reason, but payed well after some years (around 1450), making me regional power.

I think proper fleet is a key to success; having strong navy one can beat Venice or Portugal.

MY WAY: First I used every possible opportunity to grab the islands. Once I had secure income I started to invest in navy to get a fleet stronger than Ottomans. I accumulated wealth too, and of course I kept eye on Turks to be sure they're constantly involved in some war with Golden Horde or Timurids. Once my fleet became greater I made sure Ottomans and their allies (Serbia and Bosnia) were in Anatolia. Then I blocked the Bosphorus and declared the war.

My 30 vessels managed block the straits and destroy Ottoman navy. Than 6k army from Thrace (really small!) was able to occupy Bosnia and Serbia (and vassalize them), and retake as much Greece as I could.

I finished the war with Turks forcing them to give me all their European holdings sine Edirne. That one (and the rest of Anatolian provinces) came some years later.

Now I can wage the war on three fronts. And with much success.

At least initially, galleys. If you show up with five carracks to the Ottomans' ten galleys, you'll lose. Simply outmassing them with galleys is easier and more effective. Cheaper, too.

I start building carracks once I've captured one from someone and I think it's getting lonely.

Oh my god... I just had the most intense war as Byzantium... I've managed to reclaim all of Greece and Kandar... I just fought an intense war vs the Ottomans, Qara horde and Venice at the same time. I actually feel physically sick from it hahha. I managed to destroy navies belonging to Naples, Provence, Algiers, Aquileia and many more.. It bankrupted mebecause I took over so many navies that I needed to disband about 30 ships, and I was still like 50 ships above my forcelimits.

I actually almost died at one point... I dunno how the Ottomans managed to gather about 15k troops in the balkans (the straits were blocked), but I had JUST gone over 8 WE, so i used Liberum Veto, sent them in to kill the Ottoman army and then disbanded it (before it would bankrupt me again).

I am at like 17.5% inflation (which is shocking for me because I've never gone above like 0.5 inflation), it;s like 1420ish, and I've stopped minting. I can make like 5 ducats a year, while using a MoM to start to kill off my inflation... thinking my first NI will be national bank just to kill my inflation.

Byzantines have some great missions though... give you much needed cash after conquering regions, so it'll fuel my war machine and let me take out the Ottomans. I need to take a serious break now though, because I don't think I've ever fought such an intense war, where a single mistake means that its game over. Byzantines can't afford to make a SINGLE mistake. Looks like I've got the upper hand now, though.

You can also conquer the Greek minors by spamming patriot rebels there. Last time I conquered all of Greece without firing a shot just by making them collapse.

The universal strategy to beating the ottomans is to have more ships than them. They will send all their troops into Anatolia to fight the Timurids so you leave your ships on the straight and put 1 unit on each of their western provinces. They wont leave the port since you have more ships and they have no units on that area to defend. Take as many provinces as you can and the OTT's will likely fall apart on their own.

..Be warned that if your against an AI with a larger navy than you after taking all the BYZ cores they can do the same to you. The Byzantium area is possibly the most annoying location in the game (Loooooong travel times, lots of hills, can get cut off if your navy isn't large enough, lots of strong neighbors.)

For what? For defending myself from what it looked like an accusation of piracy?
I took things that are related to illegacy very important, as should anyone who is a bit smart.
I'm pretty sure he was making sure you were sure about the exact game you were running, as you have the little icon for EU3 Complete, not any of the other EU3 games. The EU3 you're on can affect the advice you receive quite a bit, since In Nomine is different from Heir to the Throne which is again different from Divine Wind.

The differences can be easily missed by a new player.

People really ought to let dead threads lie. Especially if they're going off-topic almost a year after a mod specifically said not to.

I'm closing the thread for necro-ing.
