I imagine that an Easy Mode starting system could be created by creating a custom starting system consisting of a ringworld, a Gaia world and a bunch of other rocks and gas giants on which bases can be built.

Wow, that was quite a few more replies than I expected. :D

What sources say this? The only thing I've heard is that we are able to choose our home planet's type and name, nothing else.
While others have pointed out its presence in the first blorg stream, I actually remembered it being brought to attention in one of the Youtuber's video as well. However, my memory was probably playing tricks on me since I cannot find the video any more.

I don't think we'll be able to choose our starting system very carefully. It seems to be characteristic for space 4x games that your start is random. More interesting that way too. Otherwise people would just end up always choosing similar starts.
While I can understand that sentiment and agree to it to a degree, I think that at least some pre-set options or preference should be there for players who want it, either for mechanical reasons or for flavouring reasons. I mean, many probably would want to start on the small rock called Sol III even if it was not the most optimal starting position in terms of game-play, and some might want to opt for other known systems, either ones based on what we could piece together like Gliese 667 or fictional one like something based on 40 Eridani.

Personally, though, I am not too attached to the idea of starting in an identical setup every time like what we probably would have for a Sol setting. Instead, I am more curious if we can have some sort of randomisation within the choice, like always starting on a gas giant moon but all other factors are randomised (inspired by @TheBeautifulVoid in an awesome article, thank you, by the way :) ).

It is true that we can simply reroll until we ended up on such a starting position, but I think that adding such an option (or at least tell us how to mod it!) would make it must easier. Maybe that is not the most important aspect of the game ever, but it would still be nice.

I strongly suspect that Blorg will be in as a pre-set system option.

I imagine that an Easy Mode starting system could be created by creating a custom starting system consisting of a ringworld, a Gaia world and a bunch of other rocks and gas giants on which bases can be built.

I don't think that'll happen. Overall the 'completely random start!" is a very neat and simple gameplay mechanism.

For new players, there will be an 'easy' difficulty start, giving bonuses to the player, as I understand it.

I'm guessing the main reason there is an option is for Mods who want dedicated universe starts, but might want randomized outer planets. You can create custom factions and include a custom tailored starting world as a single package.

Do you have a favourite thing in space that you'd like me to cover?

Pluto's planetary status ;)

Mentioning Pluto here is like mentioning Lend-Lease in HoI4 forums.

An episode on Pluto? Okay. I know very little about our Solar system but I can research it. I warn you now that I am a supporter of Mike Brown and Neil deGrasse Tyson, so people who are anti-orthodoxy may not find my views comforting.
