Interesting, I knew most of that, (for instance the referendum after WWII, which allowed the poles to accept a peace with germany, in which poland gained land in the west, but did not allow them to disagree with the USSR taking huge amounts of land in the east), but nobody in poland told me about the interbelum period in poland. Seems to me they're not very proud of it, and rightfully so.

Yup, that was part of the picture - butchery on a scale and in ways Europe had never seen before. The social, economic and political impact was suitably immense.
....

This is a very good point if you want to know anything about British history in the last 100 years look to the events of WW1 in Flanders.
I'd claim the most important date in my life is actually July 1st 1916, the start of the battle of the Sommne, the day more than 16,000 British soldiers died. As Vrykolakas say the "the social, economic and political impact was suitably immense." From that time the British have had a near complete mistrust of government and officaldom, which perhaps younger nations like the USA have yet for fully aquire. In the coming war in Iraq we won't see a patroitic rallying to the Flag in Britain simply because of the events of 80 years ago.

I am not talking about the stuff you learned in grade- or highschool, but the stuff you actually, for some reason, know a lot about. My angle, for instance, would probably be the holy roman empire. I just find this 1000-year piece of history quite intriguing. That's why I started reading books about it.

If I were playing EU2 and wanted to know something about a very particular part of history who could give me the answer?
I hope this makes sense...:)
Well I know a lot about the Netherlands from 1200 until now with some memory leaks on wars lost;)
Further quite some background on England and France on the same era and of course a lot on Germany from 1870 to 1945.

I think I could get published in a non-scholarly journal (or have been) in:
1. Napoleonic history (especially naval)
2. Europe 1870-1914
3. WWI strategy and loistics (but not tactics)
4. US Consitution/US Supreme Court opinions on USC
5. WWII naval history

I would love to expand my knowledge enough to get published (not scholarly) in:
1. WWI naval history
2. Thirty Year's War
3. US colonial history

I'm afraid I won't be much help to you. My interests lie mostly with the late cold war and more modern wars. Specifically the Gulf War, Somalia and Afghanistan. Having actually lived (and been of an age to comprehend them) during the time makes them fascinating to me.

I'm still trying to figure out Kosovo.

EU II should really come in handy there, especially if you play the Habsburg or Ottomans. That is, if you want to learn something about the context in which it all took place.

Well than, mr. Sokolowski, where are you from? You haven't filled in your location. Anyone with a polish background automatically gets my attention. (polish heritage and all that, you know...)

Polish background? I was actualy born in Poland, so my background is pretty solid. I moved away when I was 8 but I still read and write fluently, so there's no problem when reading Polish history books.
Currently I'm studying at the University of Oregon in Eugene. This would be on the U.S west coast.

Regards

Byzantine and British empires. I'm a bit fuzzy on some of the specifics, though.
