I would like to know whom I should ask, if wanted to know something about a certain bit of history. I am not talking about the stuff you learned in grade- or highschool, but the stuff you actually, for some reason, know a lot about. My angle, for instance, would probably be the holy roman empire. I just find this 1000-year piece of history quite intriguing. That's why I started reading books about it.

If I were playing EU2 and wanted to know something about a very particular part of history who could give me the answer?
I hope this makes sense...:)

Havard's right.

I am most interested (and knowledgeable) about modern western history: Europe and north America after about 1750.

I can possibly help if you have questions concerning foreign policy after WW2. My main interests are the US and the other NATO countries, but I have a some background in Soviet materials too (but much more limited).

Tomas – I am not a participant in any RPG, but my main areas of research and documentation centre around Europe in W.W.II and specifically British Special Forces (the Army Commandos), Military Intelligence, and the Allies and Resistance in the Italian theatre. Glad to help if any of the above are of interest. :)

I know lots and lots about polish history.
From its foundation in 996 AD to our days.
I have however concentrated on studying the period of the partitions and the decades before the partitions, as well as the deluge.

I also know a lot (at least in comparison with most people) about the second world war, The Roman Empire prior to its fragmentation into east and west rome.
I have a strong interest in most ancient cultures...like the egyptians, assyrian, etc....that comes from studying archeology.
Since I study in sweden I have automaticly aquired much knowledge about swedish prehistory.

Nice, do you know a book (in english) that I could read to give me an insight on the history of poland? I got a crash course at the jagiellonian university (Krakow for those who don't know) back in '99, but that was only 10 classes of about 2 hours. My polish is rather lousy, so polish academical books will tell me very little.

There is one book called "Heart of Europe" but i dont remember the authors name, I think that he is brittish.
It was written in the 1980:s so it doesnt cover Polands most recent history.
The same author has also written a book called "Gods playground", i have not been able to get my hands on copy yet though.

"Heart of Europe" covers pretty much most of polands history and is the only book with begins its cronology in present time and goes backward through history.

As usual with interesting things, it's out of stock. Well I guess I'll just have to check the royal library (in The Hague) to see if they have it. They've got loads of great books there!:)

well, i know probably more than someone would know about the netherlands around the "pacification" of 1917/8 (not that it is so interesting :))
further, as it is my interest Poland (seems to be a popular country I see :D), especially the 18th and 19th century
in theory I should know quite a lot about anything past 1500 as that`s what I study after all

As to Davies` books, don`t know about the other one, but if you want to spare money, you could look at a library for "god`s playground". At least in the netherlands it is a standard-work about Poland and so to be found in about every decent library.
