After watching the start from 3 different streamers seeing what all the character creation options are. I think I have decided what I am going with my first play threw so I thought I would share and ask and see what choices other people have decided on.

I am going with family comes from House Marik ( Exiled after a failed power grab )
I left the family with the Mech ( Option where my family might end up still alive unlike most the rest of the options )
I became a soldier for the reach. ( My character went seeking glory instead of the pampered life of a noble )

Torn between some sort of Deep Periphery Clan exile/scout and just putting up with all the gd freebirths and insufferably backward technology, or a Davion frontiersman turned Aurigan soldier whose mercenary company is just Lady Arano's private paramilitary guard in all but name.

I'm currently thinking of making a commander descended from House Kurita (or maybe Steiner?), who is exiled, and becomes a merchant guard.

I'm hoping there's a chance to explore this stuff a bit more in conversation than what we've seen. So far it's just been the occasional acknowledgment.

I haven't seen all of the options, so I dunno. Probably start with a Marik/Aurigan noble and go from there.

Capellan Confederation loyalist family for extended generations, with the character's mother and father ending up in this end of the local periphery for unknown reasons. I'll figure out the rest from there.
Also, I plan on not having my character pilot a mech or fight at all after the game opens up my dropship upgrade from the Leopard. In desperation I might swap him in if I'm in a real pickle to get a mech fielded, but otherwise he'll be busy being the boss of the growing operation. I'm going to skill up cheap pilots instead.

Myself, since I don't get complete control of the background, I can't quite do Commander Sethan in an alternate timeline. So I'm coming up and brainstorming someone almost an opposite in temperament. Working on the specifics now, but . . . the rougher part is going to be trying to write the other crew members when I fictionalize this.

Given things don't change between what we saw and launch:

FWL origin, parents double suicide from bankruptcy and kid goes merc. Kind of a stereotypical FWL story about profit and loss. He's out of money and only has a BattleMech. Welp, time to use it to make some money.

No real attachment to any of the IS houses myself, FWL is on the map and their capitalist bent fits with the later two choices that get me a +1 GUT/+2 TAC.

I've always been fond of a Taurian expatriate just trying to figure out what to do with his life, being a decent mechwarrior but not a very good soldier.

So, Taurian ancestry, who struck out on his own and became a frontier freelancer.

For that second choice, I especially like the idea of him just taking off from his family because I approve of protagonists with totally non-tragic backstories, and it's the only choice that implies he could still have a connection with his family. I'm kind of amused at the thought of mom or dad calling him up to chew him out about stealing the family mech, and demanding to know when he's going to come to his senses and return home.

Or maybe we later discover that taking the mech left our family without its best defense when the Directorate came calling. In which case, it would mean he helped engineer the requisite tragedy himself.

it appears that I am likely unable to get my first choice in stats assuming the what happened at 16 options stay the same. there will not be a way to start as a 4322 or 3422.

Therefore, I shall be a pirate who's family was betrayed giving me a 3242 start with plans to push gunnery to 5, then piloting to 5, and eventually getting breaching shot as my lvl 8 ability. This may in the end be a better option for my health anyway...

My character is gonna be from the Federated Suns (Specifically the Draconis March area, my character is gonna be part Kuritan part Davion heritage) who struck out on her own to either join a merc unit or become a Solaris gladiator. Not sure which I want to commit to yet. Either way, my girl is doing 'Mech piloting for C-Bills and thrills! ;)

I'm going to let the flow of the moment inspire me when I see the final choices before me. Whatever strikes my fancy will determine how I began. Maybe I'll pull out my dice bag and let chance decide my origins. Actually I might just do that to start.
Roll a die to determine at each choice for background, and see where it takes me. I like this idea. kinda reminds me of Fasa Star Trek character creation.

Steiner -> Accident or Betrayal -> ???? Though if just the options we had, probably Merc or Merch

Aren't there hints that there are other options depending on what ones you pick? Like if you did an IS house someone had a document that showed things like Comstar being an option?

(Is there another good stream that goes through the Chargen Process a little more in depth than Cohh did? He's the only one I watched so far)
