Personally I want a bunch of new national focus trees. Mexico for some sweet, sweet US-Mexican War revanchism, Finland so I can crush Swedes and Soviets in style and Spain for some anti-fascist fun. But we're all thinking about national focus trees already. What else do we want from DLC?

Diplomatic/espionage DLC - more options, more detail. Appeasement as a game mechanic. Negotiate ceasefires. Assassination plots. Conspire with enemy defectors. Steal military secrets. Pull off Operation Mincemeat. Interact with the press. Internal and external propaganda.

Non-state DLC - Play as the Korean resistance! Free France! Admittedly there might not be enough gameplay here.

Alt history nonsense DLC - It's coming. Steampunk WWII with battlemechs. Magic WWII with German occultists. Sci-fi WWII with highly conservative reptilian aliens.*

Fluff DLC - Timeline feature to look at the progression of fronts and territorial control. A way to mark battles. Interactions with your country's population.

Even more detailed game mechanics DLC - Issue special missions to elite squads Inglorious Basterds-style. A Make supply and infrastructure not based on 50% area control. New doctrine trees.

Cold War DLC - Continue the game past the war for a few years to watch the dust settle.

What do you guys want to see?

A DLC that extends the timeline to January 1st, 1954.

As for the actual game, I don't know since I haven't played it yet and therefore don't know what needs more content and flavor.

I'd like to see the (absolute) monarchy government form, which could give you some cool things that are somewhere between being fascist and being a democracy. It would be pretty cool to have a faction of several monarchies

i'd like to see an expansion on the way navies can be built up. For example, it'd be nice to be able to convert say, a heavy cruiser into an escort carrier or a battleship into a fleet carrier. whether that's just ships already in construction with a heap of progress being lost or being able to do it from scratch, if i'm not wrong Japan had at least one or two fleet carriers that were converted in this way.

Also i'd like to see an expansion in logistics, to strangle a country in a different way than it is currently. disclaimer, i'm completely fine and happy with the way it is and this is not a complaining thing. But if i was to say the ideal way to do it in my eyes, it would be to have fuel be something that needs to get to planes and ships otherwise they operate with greatly reduced range or efficiency. As it is, and it works, the way you win against a resource starved nation is that they lose the long war of attrition because you with resources can produce 2 or even 3 planes for every 1 they can produce. i'd prefer to see oil shifted out of the production and into supplies, but i understand that might be an unrealistic ask until a major expansion, if ever. its certainly a lot of rebalancing

i also wonder if there's a way to simulate a nations ability to train new pilots. a lot of japan's pilots in the late war were quite inexperienced and their valuable veterans couldn't be replaced. right now we have a system where regular divisions can be anywhere from green up to veterans, but we don't have that system with plane pilots. although its a lot harder to simulate since a singular division is deployed with a lot of equipment, while a single plane is just a piece of equipment you're mass producing.

it'd also give an additional reason to use the divine wind tactic for japan. i imagine if your experienced pilot pool has been depleted and your fighters and bombers are fighting with much less ability, you would be tempted towards divine wind, even though that guarantees your attrition rate is going to go up massively and plenty of pilots who might have become experienced die.

you might track it on a plane by plane basis, and when you look at say, an airport they could be grouped. like three colour codes, and under those that represent "rookie" you might have 100 p51s, and all of those p51s will fight poorly as they are inexperienced. While you have a "trained" heading with 200 p51s, they fight like normal with no bonus or malus, and they represent the best you can train without combat experience, then a heading for your veteran pilots who fight with a bonus to their ability.

i will say, i'm not a fan of timeline increases though. i can see a few more years on the end to make sure the major conflict ends, but hoi4 is never going to be a cold war game.

Also if its not in it from day 1, i'd like there to be a way to restore wilhem II to the german throne, and turn the reich into the german empire. due to the Oster conspiracy there is at least a bit of historical plausibility even if its quite out there

just my 2 cents on ideas that i find roughly interesting as DLC ideas to try to further increase the depth of the game, but trying to still rely on established systems so its not too big a shift.

There's only one thematic piece of game design I know in advance I won't like and hope to see added in a dlc, and that's pilots; pilots as in, separate organisms from the planes they fly in. As for everything else, I hope that paradox don't take a blind bit of notice of anyone's views until they have at least a hundred hours playing-time on steam, and take a great deal of notice of people who have racked up 500+ hours. 4 - 6 months after release sounds just right for the first major overhaul.

So the neutral faction? I know the name isn't very appealing but most of the faction names seem to be weird catch all terms.

WWI DLC - I know its meant to be Vicky's era but the mechanics of HoI4 seem ideal for how it was planned and unfolded (or perhaps failed to unfold). Certainly countless 'what-if' ahistorical options here too - Serbia folds/Russia abandons them, Schlieffen (and his original plan) live!, Britain remains neutral, Turkey stays out, Italy honours the Triple Alliance, USA dragged into war with Mexico, more greedy treaties of London (Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands join the Entente to regain territories lost to Germany), etc.

Interwar DLC - Help or hinder the League of Nations in either keeping a lid on things for the sake of world peace or letting tensions boil over for your own national ambitions! (Plenty of non-historical options, like Britain and Japan walking out on the Washington Naval Conference and seeing the USA range up against their alliance or the Entente enforces the Treaty of Sevres).

Chinese Civil War DLC/scenario - Many warlords, leaders, ideologies and factions but only one China (albeit with various external influences, well-meaning or otherwise).

Russian Civil War DLC/scenario - See above.

Uprising DLC - As national stability falls, if national leaders fail to opt for peace, other leaders (civil or military) may revolt to save their nation from reckless warmongers (or just see the opportunity for a naked grab for power). (Think July 4th plotters and the struggle between collaboration versus resistance in exile/colonial territory.)

DLC Les Résistants

Make subjugating countries even harder, with new mechanics to deal with résistants and the like. You know, booster the sense of national pride of fallen countries.

I would love mechanics dealing with propaganda in more details, for every types of government, through medias and such.

Just something with this thematic will be awesome.

An Independence DLC- Meaning that you as a free country can help contribute (send resources, weapons maybe even factories?) to a resistance or partisan units. Like it was in history so like the Uk can send resources to the French resistance.
Also with that it would be cool if you can control what party is on top when they declare and hopefully win Independence so you can have like a Communist France or something (there where alot of different factions in the partisan units so if it is possible to implement it in the game, it would be awesome)

Content for DLC's:
  • Espionage(i think they confirmed this already)
  • naval and airforce personal training(but to say this happens during production time also ok, maybe just with new models two months of decreased combat effetivness due to not knowing best tactics for this plane, could getting smaller over the two months)
  • decouple the fuel out of the production and make it a supply instead that you have to produce.
  • Air supply, more air missions in general.
  • Maybe some more unit types, like light and heavy inf, mot, mech, art so we can customize the units more to terrain penalties and equipment cheaper units with more manpower for countries like china.
  • smaller ship typs, especially for convoy escort like Destroyer Escorts, Corevetts and escort carriers, pretty much useless in everything else but help to cover my convys against subs.
  • An Aircraft Sub Typ like carrier planes but instead it is for Nightoperations, the germans created alot of dedicated variants only for night fighting. Maybe only for fighter, heavy figther and tac bomber
  • capture equipment after battle not only after surrender of enemy country.
that is it for know, content and time dlc's are nice and so, but not really important for me.

  • More advanced partisians that can rise up if strong enough, and the ability for foreign powers to supply them with military equipment.
  • Expansion of national unity, and tie it closer to politics. Things like holding fair elections should improve it, while you can give a boost to the ruling party in return for lowering NU. National unity can also have other effects like decreasing/increasing the enemy's intel on you. Also, coups and civil wars could erupt if it is low enough.

Unfortunately a date earlier than 1936 isn't going to happen. The devs feel that any date before '36 is less of a "WW2 situation" and more of a "rise of the Nazis" which they obviously don't want.
