My votes: Prussia, Austria, Argentina, OE, Japan and a few more I love (like USA for an easy game, Belgium/Netherlands, Spain, Italians) but could only choose 5 of them. There should be a poll 'What countries you hate' (meaning the major ones) too.

I'm suprised so many people play as prussia, it's so easy! Come on don't we want some challenge here? It's either an african minor or nothing for me :D

Try Prussia in 1.4, definitely much less of a cakewalk now.

Hmmm....

Mixed order, I wasn't bothered to order them :

United Kingdom
Prussia
Austria
Russia
Ottoman Empire

UK - They are strong, and sort of easy to play with
Prussia - They have the famous unification, thats one of the reasons I like playing a german state (not to get an army of hitlers and take over the world by Jan 2 1836!)

Austria - Moderately easy, Great Power, many cultures and you can get used to micromanagement

Russia - Well... I like lots of hordes and I want to get Tsar of all Slavs

Ottoman Empire - Well, they possess many challenges, and without challenges a game sucks!

I've never played as the UK, but it seems like it could be an excellent campaign- very rich in history. It would no doubt include many decisions for the player and involve events occuring all over the globe.

If it seems as though it is not enough of a challege, can't one be challeged on "very hard" difficulty setting. I'm brand new to Victoria- and I really hope that playing as Great Britain can be rewarding. As I have said- I'm new and have yet to play, but my guess is that playing as the UK must involve a great deal of micro-management. With so many decisions to make, there must some challege. Would an experienced player please offer me an opinion on playing as the UK? Thanks

Well, I screwed up and only voted for one : Russia

Love the 'Tsar of All Slavs' event and industrialising Mother Russia, taking on the Chinese, Central Asia, and delivering a massive beatdown on the UK in India! :D

My other choices in order of preference:

Prussia
France
Ottoman Empire

My favourite country - definitely Two Sicilies! You can easily unite Italy in 5 years time (on VIP I mean) and then - it's just fun. Especially when you have the funds to support Hungary, buy the Balkans form OE and take part in Race for Africa.

Then, there comes Prussia - the first country I beat GB with. Though it isnt a great quest.

And finally - Russia :) The industrial power which she never was and never will I suppose ;)

That gets my vote.

I play Victoria in a way more akin to how I played SimCity than to the way I play Hearts of Iron. It's about building, growth and politics. The wars are an added extra.

So Russia is hugely rewarding, if not the most difficult nation on the planet to win the game with.

Would someone please offer me some veteran opinions on my last post(#32)? Thanks

I play for year so decide for yourself if I'm an experienced player.
I personally don't like playing UK but that's my individual feeling ofc.
But don't take it on if you aren't good at micromanagement - UK game is based on this basically. The thing I hate most about this country are many wars with shitty countries that give you nothing more than losing a prestige.
Hope I've helped you a bit

i'd say a good 2/3 of the my games have been Greece...sad.

Although I absolutely love playing the USA and taking all of North and South America....

Releasing Australia/NZ early on can be a kind of fun play. As well as the Louisiana I've created!
