According to a dev on the dev diary's page: "Also guys, there is no Italy in this expansion. It really doesnt fit in with the rest and I am a bit surprised that people expected that it would be because we try and keep to themes or close areas (mexico is in MTG because its a neighbor of USA and someone really wanted to make mexico). I had some plans to include it in MTG because of italys naval connections but that DLC got too big with all the other majors in there so there was no room. Italy needs and deserves an expansion with a theme and other nations that supports it imo".

So no Italy. But what nations?

Almost certainly USSR. And hopefully Finland and Poland. But only 3 nations seems kind of a downer.

I would argue Italy fits perfectly into this DLC because Italy actually took part in Opperation Barbarossa. But it's too late for that.

If anything, who is Italy going to be reworked with, now that every major and nearby country is already reworked, Switzerland and Austria?

Confirmed: Only USSR.

The rest is specualtion and we will need to see the future dev diaries before we really can say who are confirmed in this thread.

To keep up with what seems to be the real content, and countless threads, I suppose USSR expansion will have focus trees for Finland and Poland. They might add either Norway or Sweden or Iran or Iraq. Albeit Scandinavia and the Middle-East will likely be in country packs, wouldn't surprise me if Norway and Sween is in the next expansion the Middle-East will get a country pack and vice verca. Likely some updates to the powers in the region. Wouldn't surprise me if we got trees for Mongolia or seperate Soviet states - allthough I do not hope so.

Italy likely what was in their pre-thought sphere - aka. Austria and Switzerland. Perhaps also Belgium, because why not. Or further tweaks of Yugoslavia, Hungary and Romania. Wouldn't surprise me if we got a focus tree for Ethiopia either even if I hope they would rather focus on Italy.

This DLC I'm expecting Finland, Poland and the USSR to get overhauls/focus trees. They mentioned one of the trees is massive (most likely the Soviet one) so either there won't be a fourth, like La Resistance, or I'm thinking we're either getting an Iran tree or Germany getting a communist branch.

As for Italy, I'm thinking they're going to be paired with Iraq at least, Switzerland and maybe Austria? Obviously they vanish off the map quite quickly, but there's not really anyone else that I think could fit with Italy proper - I'd suggest they'd have done that for BftB with Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria but that's gone by now lol. The wildest option would be an on-the-map Egypt, something I would like but can't see happening.

As for why I don't think any of the other Scandinavian nations will be in this DLC is pretty much me assuming that they'll all be in a country pack together, same with South America. Denmark, Norway and Sweden would work (maybe a small Iceland one) and the SA one could be Brazil, Argentina and Colombia for example.

I think one or more middle eastern nations are likely, such as Iran (They got invaded by the Brits and Soviets in August 1941) and Iraq (Invaded May 1941).
This would give you around 4 years to prepare, or diplomatically align yourself with someone so as to not get curb-stomped. Both have formable nations (Persia and Arabia) that could be goals for expansion.

They could do the Scandinavian countries like the China warlords, with a big shared tree, and focuses for closer integration and military assistance to the Finns, leading to a peaceful union around 1939-1940, or a forced union much earlier. Historically, the Scandinavian countries will go their own path alone, and not do much, but for non historical runs, the return of the Kalmar Union or the rise of the Nordic League could be a thing, perhaps even a League of Armed Neutrality with the Russian Empire....

I don't get why people assume a Polish tree as it was the first minor power to get a tree. This makes it old and not as nice as the newer ones, but it's still more then most nations got. As it's so old so is it likely to get a new one, but that is far from sure, so why are people assuming it will happen this time?

Because like the Italian and Soviet trees, it's a relic now lol, besides, wasn't the Polish tree a free dlc anyway? Thematically it would fit with the Soviets so I can't really imagine doing one without the other so I will be very surprised if they dont get a tree.

I would argue Italy fits perfectly into this DLC because Italy actually took part in Opperation Barbarossa.
Croatia, Spain, Vichy and Slovakia also took part in Operation Barbarossa, but this does not mean that they need to be updated. The developers said that they choose countries that border each other. Moreover, they will not do 2 major countries in one DLC, for Italy there should be its own DLC with its own countries and mechanics. It is not profitable to sell two major countries in one expansion.

They have confirmed that Poland is going to get a rework at some point with the roadmap. It's on the to-do list so a lot of people are hoping it'll happen now (and I mean odds look good).
Croatia, Spain, Vichy and Slovakia also took part in Operation Barbarossa, but this does not mean that they need to be updated. The developers said that they choose countries that border each other. They've sold several majors in one DLC before, I don't think we always know the rules. Countries included will always be whatever the devs feel the most passion for at the time that they can justify including. IMO this is great because it means we get far better focus trees. Italy just didn't fit with what they saw this DLC being (although I do think that "Mussolini made the trains run on time" would be a great achievement regardless of if we get a focus or not)

They confirmed a while back that Poland would get a revamp, and now wouldn't be a bad time to accomplish that.
I am on the same train of thought that most middle east and Scandinavian countries will be grouped in their own country packs, and I highly doubt they will be put into this upcoming DLC, as much as they may fit.

USSR in itself will be a big undertaking, paired with a new supply system and reworked land warfare meta. We will be lucky if any other countries are included, but keeping with precedent, I believe Poland is the most likely to be reworked, with Finland as a possible but less likely option as well.

Any other countries, except MAYBE Mongolia, would be stretch, IMO.

If Finland isn’t in this I’d be shocked, a dlc and patch focusing on supply, weather, and the ground war? Literally the perfect concoction for the winter war and the continuation war.

I think that the most plausible thing is that we will see two reworks, one Soviet, another Polish, and own approaches for Finland and shared trees for the Baltic countries in the Chinese warlods style (although Lithuania could have some own branch)

Possibly we will see a communist branch for Germany and with good luck the Reichkomassariat could get some kind of shared tree of its own since I would like Ukraine to have something of its own flavor one day

Technically there haven't been any that are strictly confirmed, but the soviet hype train has pulled into the destination and we're just waiting for the doors to open. Past that I don't think anyone really knows, though I personally see a german tree touch up as a safe bet, and expect a poland revamp as well.

While nothing beyond Soviets is confirmed, I wonder, if anything for pure speculation:

What if they are planning focus trees for nations within the soviet union, that you can access after they capitulate or if you follow a certain path, such as Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan or (less likely) Kazakhstan, sort of like what they did with Vichy?

Didn't devs said that they would not make focuses for the releasable countries? That would be really cool but really useless, I think. And it doesn't make sense, because historically these countries were not independent at that time, and a generic focus tree is quite suitable for an alternative history.

I love your idea and I agree that nations could have a small shared tree of their own and it could also be done at small Balkan nations like Croatia or Albania

I think at least in the Ukrainian case it would be very plausible and pleasant to give it something more of its own flavor beyond something generic it is still very decaffeinated since they were very close to obtaining a certain independence very similar to the Croatian case and we previously remember that Ukraine was recognized by the Germans towards the end of World War I as his vassal state
