what nation for my first game?

I got the game a few days ago, but I haven't really dared playing it yet... Don't ask me why, I'm probably just plain weird...

Anyway, what country should I start with? I've played EU, EU2 and HOI so I'm pretty at home with the general operation of these games...

Try Sardinia-Piedmont, its a medium sized country, there's land and naval elements, you have weak neighbours to annex, it's a good beginner's country.
or, try Belgium, you start at war, you're not too big so the micromanagement isn't too important and you have a chance to expand and colonize...

A small country tends to have less ethnicity and less various dominant issues. Thus, on that part, it is easier to understand the basics. Also, it helps to concentrate if you don't have too many provinces. Indeed, Savoie Piemonte seems a good choice.

If you play the 1836 scenario (Grand Campaign) I would suggest either Belgium or Prussia: decent amount of factories from start, a fair amount of machine tools (needed to make more factories), no colonies to manage. Sardinia-Piedmont is a bit undeveloped in the industrial aspect (total 7 factories and only 5 machine tools).

I'd suggest Prussia - strong military, no colonies, good relations with your neighbors, and good industry and tech - and not to big.

Also, you have a scheduled war with the Danes that you should win easily and will teach you a bit about the combat system...

I'm starting with Texas and hope to annex the US. History as it should have been.

Just started my Texas campaign and I may have to rethink my plan. Looks like annexing the US may be wishful thinking. I have more cows than people. We'll see.
