Anyone doing a fantasy mod?

Ive been thinking about the Wheel of time thingy, but as always, the map is the biggest problem. Takes alot of effort to produce a high quality map from scratch, 100s of hours depending on the number of provinces and overall size.

I would like to see a Middle Earth mod but i'm sceptical if it would fit well with EUIV?

Make Sauron EU-3 like Horde, i dunno...

But the biggest problem with any phantasy world, that i can see at least, is magic. Dont know you can handle that, specially in combat etc.

I've always felt that Fantasy Mods would work better on CK2.

ADDENDUM: I planned, back when I was considering doing a Fantasy Mod, to use the Battle Events to represent different spells.

Elder Scrolls mod or CK2 is impressive but CK2 is a character based game so I think it requires more work from modders than say a EU style game.

A core mechanics change mod that restore a small level of scalability to monarch power (though with corresponding tweaks to tech costs) and envoys, while tweaking certain events and aspects of the overextension system and the building system.

Nothing too drastic, but it should bring back some of the classic experience for those who won't enjoy the quasilinear systems meant to punish growth at all costs.

As for mods I want to try; though I'm cool with a 1444 start date, I'd definitely like to eventually get my hands on a timeline expansion with 1356 as a start date.

Not that this would be really significant for Middle Earth. The handful of magical thingimajig are probably best represented as super-generals, or bonus to general stats. (A bonus to the dark side to represent the democralizing effec tof Nazguls, etc)

I'm doing a Warcraft mod, with Colonization on Kalimdor/Northrend though kinda hard to do with the lack of a better military system, but decision recruitment & heavy scripting might do. And a Emergent Orc/Scourge Super Hordes.

I've Created a Decent Azeroth Map, lacking rivers/ Half of Kalimdor/most of Outland. in 2 weeks.

Photoshop's tendacy to blur everything when i need strict color differences no graduation is the only reason i havent finished it in 4 days.

Maybe youre just that good, i dunno, but id certainly love to see you make a map from scratch, same landmass size as EU3, same or similar province density, and do terrain, rivers, regions, climates and all that in 4 days. In that case id say Paradox should hire you. In a month worth of work time youd improve their maps by a light year.

Nah Paradox's maps are too crystal clear compared to my map or AGOT's or Elder Kings. but i understand you its boring and extremely tedious if something screws up the whole thing ends up forcing you to redo from an earlier save.

If someone could find a Great map editor that doesnt blend colors even if you put it in the highest amount of focus, also if it had Topology/ Height map would be great too.

At least as far as Provinces are concerned, I do all of my map modding in Paint.Net because Paint.Net actually understands the meaning of 0 bloody tolerance unlike Photoshop's stupid 0-tolerance-really-means-23%-tolerance crap.

Seriously I HATE Photoshop's tolerance mechanic, or rather its lack of a tolerance mechanic.

I also use Paint.net, its free and reliable, but the yeah this work is rather tedious, when eu4 launches i'ma just use my Finished Working Eastern Kingdoms map as an alpha type. and probably would stay like that until i get everything else done. I'm too lazy to release a Full Map on Launch day. also defining stuff n scripts, i'ma just keep it as a simple different world mod for a couple of months.

how can you make a map for eu4 now? We dont have the map.bmp

EU4 runs on Clausewitz engine which means theres a very good chance it will have provinces.jpg in some shape or form. The only difference compared to current state of EU3 would be topology and maybe another map file that defines icy/snowy effects from climate.

Unless you have some inside information? That would be very sad if we were unable to mod the map.
