Only recently i started play TFH after having played DIG mod (HOI3-FTM) for a looong time. Love the DIG mod for the events and in particular for the special GER units like pocket battleships (their so fast!!), 88-flak, assault guns...u get it. Biggest drawback for DIG is the insane overpowered Sovjet but it cant keep me away:

First game on tfh is ongoing and seems ok except that i miss historical flavour and events.
I see several mods is on the table for thf: any smooth running and easy installable mod you could recommend to me ?

Thx for any replies :)

From what I know, there are several major mods for HoI 3 that should be compatible with TFH. I'll tackle them alphabetically:

1) BICE - Probably the most popular out there. It adds tons of stuff into the game.
2) HPP - I grew up on it, as I like most of the ideas there. It'll take some getting used to if you're planning to play it though, so beware!
3) TRP - A mod by the guy above! I guess Lothos worked out what he could with the AI during the years and what couldn't be fit into the expansions is found here.
4) WWI - This one is pretty self-explanationary. It's basically vanilla some twenty years back, though there is some chance for stuff going off the rails, just like in HPP.

These are just what are pinned. Check here for more. I've also seen AARs from DWI, Vörwarts Panzers!, YAMDaM...

Tons to choose from. Have fun while exploring them! :)

I'm an HPP junkie. Can't get enough. TRP won't work on my monitor - not sure why. I've changed all my settings but it's just too big.

Needs a widescreen monitor. What is the maximum resolution your monitor can support?

Err...I think 1280 * 1024. May be wrong, though.

Though my monitor is capable of mucher higher resolutions this is what I have TRP set for. I wish I could run higher but my eyesight is the limit here.

OT: I very much recommend TRP, but I've also dabbled in HPP. HPP makes me a little uncomfortable, but I haven't played it much so really can't give a solid opinion one way or the other.

Sounds like Black ICE would really be your thing here. Its the successor to Diday's ICE ( the guy who made DIG) and has a massive amount of new events, unit types and new content. The download for BICE is bigger then HOI3 itself ! Visit the Black ICE sub forum for more info.

Thx for replies. Still fidling with my first tfh game. Game - tfh - has defo improved in general. By now i thk ill try out DWI first since that open up for building those excellent fast pocket battleships :)) Based on the DWI mod thread it seems to me as the new DIG mod. DIG (only with Ftm) has - imo - the drawback of a way to owerpowered Sov that during the war continues to crank crap inf. divisions in like 3-4 days no matter how many u destroy.

DWI seems to be simple to install: just unrar that dl file into tfh mod folder as i understand it.

Thx for the head-ups :)

I was a big fan of HPP for all of the previous HOI3 versions, but the one for TFH takes the fun out of playing several minor countries I like to run; not very entertaining when you can't trade or invade your neighbor across several hundred miles of shared border because they're on a "different continent". I also tried TRP, but personally didn't care for it; definitely someone else's idea of how the game should play, not mine. Looks like it's time to try BICE.

[ Update - Did a quick try at BICE, hated it. More heavily scripted than vanilla, with massive modifiers to keep it on the rails. Lots of "flavor" units to micromanage, which the AI can't deal with easily, so the game has to rely more on scripted modifiers and events to prevent the player from simply stomping the AI. Another player posted that he noted some Soviet MIL with +700% modifiers, which were assaulting equivalent numbers of highly experienced German INF across rivers and winning. I felt like I was spending 90% of my focus on meta-gaming the events and modifiers instead of playing the game. The flavor units are nice, but I don't need them. No thanks. ]

I'd recommend either TRP or HPP if you want a fair chance for alt history. TRP focuses on gameplay and modding the ai's lua to provide a more balanced game, alongside that. HPP focuses on events to achieve the same thing, an I'd say it also mods the tech tree more (their doctrines are probably my favorite, and hopefully HOI4 takes a hint from it.

Black ICE is actually so heavy that it increases the system requirements of HoI3 sufficiently that my poor laptop cannot run it as I run out of RAM.

As for the others, I haven't tried August Storm since FTM, so cannot comment on the TFH version.
WW1 is quite entertaining if you want a change of pace.
HPP is a solid choice with a lot of events and entirely changed tech trees.
TRP probably has the best AI and a number of other changes - it's not just "perfected vanilla" as some people advertise it.

But for now, it's the DWI mod with it's more realistic division builder, that has completely captivated me. Warning, it is very difficult to go back to 4/5-unit divisions once you get used to 9-unit divisions.

Oh: i wondered how many brigades for a division in DWI; so its 9 :) I'm still on my first tfh vanilla game. Next will be DWI that looks very interesting to me.
Regarding WW1 mod: that is tempting as well. But WW1 is so interesting to me that i thk i would prefer a WW1 dedicated game covering everything - just like HOI cover everything (well politics, leaders research, industry, inteligence etc. etc.): Imagine the options: Huge !!

Used to love HPP on my old laptop, got a new one with Windows 8 and now have no idea how to get mods working on HOI3, will wait for the steam support mod section like EUIV
