To me mind, the one thing Rome does better than any other Paradox game is Civil Wars. They're dynamic and interesting. Rebels are interesting, although I'm not a fan of barbarian-whack-a-mole.

Internal political unrest and faction fights. Your 10-martial general will win you wars and territories - but which each victory, he'll get more cocky and get more units personally loyal to him. Imprisoning that 8-charisma populist leader may solve problems in the short term - but you better time that move. Also, I find that in Rome single decisions (e.g. putting the right guy in charge of an army in an advantageous position; investing hard in building ships before getting into trouble with the Ptolemies) have pretty major and severe consequences. There's less opportunity to come back after messing up than in CKII.

amazing feel of internal Politics. Only Crusaider Kings 2 Republic DLC gave me the same (well slightly the same) feel of internal faction power struggle. I love internal politics. To me Rome is a brilliant attempt.

But now it's time to repeat the glory with Rome 2

When playing a monarchy, such as Egypt or Seleucid Empire, the amount of internal political intrigue, especially during a succession crisis, is endlessly interesting. Coups, assassination attempts, mysterious "accidents" abound and the results can be game changing. Fascinating.
