Loved Risk but never had anyone to play it with. Wanted a world conquesting game for the XBOX and picked up Civ Rev. Had fun but wanted something deeper, so after some research dove into Civ 4. Had tons of fun over tons of hours, but in the end I wanted to see what else was out there and also wanted to mix in more diplomacy. EU3 had come up many times on forums so I decided to give it a try.

It sucked. There was too much going on and I couldn't even figure out to play it. Then I found Shen's Wallachia LP, and gave it another try since I had finally learned about the basics. Civ 5 was a bit of a letdown for me (I know some people like it and that's fine by me) so I sort of doubled down on the EU series.

Ya, calling one of the most popular games on steam trash is rather small minded. It may not be the type of game you like, but it's still excellent. Now, it will never reach the height of civ 3, simply becaus of Baba Yetu.
Baba Yetu was the theme song of Civilization IV. I even used the song at the opening of our church-wedding this year.
Civilization II is the game I played the most in my life. I had to rebuy the CD because it got dameged by usage. Afterwards I played Civ III and IV. I didn't the changes that came with Civ V
As Ido love history and geography, I also love looking at historical maps. Therefore EU3 looked great to me, and I played it illegaly for ages.
CK2 was the first game I bought from Paradox as they released an OS X version as well. EU4 was the logical next step.

I used to like the Civilization series but Civ 5 killed it for me. On launch it was a shit game and I vowed never to buy their games again. Where as CKII and EU4 were a complete game on launch like the old days.

I bought Civ 5 with all DLC on a sale. I didn't even finish my first game, it was boring and dumbed down.

For me, the ultimate game in the Civilization series is Civilization 4 with Caveman2Cosmos mod. Caveman2Cosmos is probably the biggest mod in the history of games (over 200 volunteers worked on it and despite its age it still gets several updates a week). Where Civ 5 dumbed the game down, Caveman2Cosmos went the other way. So much has changed it is a completely new game. They even integrated the rebel/revolution mechanics from EU4.

I started with the Civilization series and enjoyed it a lot but I got bored after a few games and tried searching for something slightly different and more historically accurate.

My search revealed the Total War series, so I played a bit through Rome 1 and Medieval 1 but soon the battles became incredibly tedious so I restarted my search.

After I while, I discovered Europa Universalis 3 and EU:Rome. Not sure which was first, but I played and played until I became addicted. I took a break to play LoL (please no downvotes) and then got back in the Paradox Universe with Crusader Kings 2 which triggered my addiction instantly and then EU4 came out and that's all.

I was very into the Total War series (that got me into turn based strategy games) and after Empire: Total War failed to impress, I decided to branch out, and checked out EUIII. I fell in love with the game but got sucked back into Total War with the advent of Shogun. I then tried CK2 and enjoyed it more so than EUIII and when Rome:total war II came out and ruined my Total War crush I hopped onto EUIV, and haven't looked back since

Played HOI3 and found it kind of fun and saw that the same devs made some other game called Europa Universalis III. At this time the only history I cared for was WW2 history but EU3 seemed cool at the time. I never really got into it though because of complexity and I also insisted on using cheats all the time so I never really mastered the mechanics, either.

Played Civilization V but was a huge scrub and didn't feel I could play decently in Emperor difficulty because you need to play Civ "non-intuitively" in some cases and I suck at that.

Then a friend started talking about EUIV non-stop with me and I decided to give it a try.

Everything was beautiful. Nothing hurt.

(except for my eyes at the first half hour trying to absorb the in-game info)

At a friends house in the 80's, I was introduced to the KOEI series Romance of the Three Kingdoms and fell in love with Historically based conquest games.
Was just a matter of time before I ran across EU:Rome which lead to EU3 and now here I am with over 4100 hours of EU4 and climbing =/

Always had EU4 on the list of games to try, but never did due to the perceived steep learning curve. Then, Rome II : TW was released, and it made me hate everything out of that joke of a developer. After few months of the Rome II: TW fraud, I saw no other game that could replace it but EU4. Now I cannot put it down. Yay for other developers' mistakes!

I had loved the Total War series for a while, but I was more into empire building in the Grand Campaign than the real time battles.

I happened upon EU4 by coincidence I think, I can't quite remember how. A humble bundle maybe? Or perhaps it just showed up as recommended on Steam during a sale and I decided to give it a go. It became my most played game since then.

Ya, I loved Civ4. Played it a ton. Never played the Caveman2Cosmos mod. When was that finished/released?

With Civ 5 I played 2 hours to learn the buttons and new stuff. Then I started a new game on hardest difficulty - There was no change. I liked the hexagonal squares and the resources limiting units but that was it. Combat was interesting but got old real fast.
I've looked at other Sid Myer games that have come out and the company has just gone into the dumps. Releasing half completed games just to get a quick buck off their popular name.

I lost thousands of hours to Fall From Heaven and its modmods. It felt like that mod changed Civ 4 as much as Beyond Earth did for Civ 5 only one was free and the other charged $40.
