I was disappointed in Rome 2 Total War so I was looking for a new grand strategy with more focus on strategy rather than Hollywood action and that's when I found EU3. Been hooked ever since then, though nowadays I mainly play with mods.

I picked up HOI3 one year (sometime after release?) and eventually checked out Victoria 2 when it came out. Around that time, EU3 was still popular, so I decided to check it out when Divine Wind was released. Needless to say, I only bought a couple more Paradox games after that.
Same here. Plus I'm a history/geography nerd so that helped too.

I got EU III and CK 2 in a bundle though never got around to trying them out... then i saw EU IV on sale with CoP expansion a year later and thought i'd try it out. Best decision i made. 
Picked up Napoleon Total War on a whim and got hooked on the general historical war game genre. Had a blast with that game but after a while the shiny battles became a little less shiny as the flaws in the AI became all too apparent.
Checked for other types of Napoleon strategy games and discovered March of the Eagles. Played it a few times but still seemed strictly military focused and lacked diplomatic options. I was more interested in a nation building strategy game than a straight up tactics game. That's when I noticed forums about EU4 and read a few of the developer diaries. That got me hooked on picking it up during one of the sales. Fast forward almost a year later and I'm still playing the game trying to pick up on some of the nuances.

I found a couple years ago an old boxed version of EUIII. It was sold for like 3€ so I thought it would be dumb not to give it a try. I actualy already had bought (and enjoyed) EU:Rome years ago but didn't realize that it was the same developer.
The possibility for (sort of) historical roleplay on a grand scale. Loved the RTW series but it always felt lacking in that sense. As far as historical Grand Strategy goes, EU IV to me is without pair.

Got into CK1 via a Let's Play on Something Awful, started looking around for other Paradox games and noticed they had just released a brand new game called 'Europa Universalis 3'.
(First time I played CK1 I quit almost immediately because it wasn't turn-based and didn't have tactical battles. Then I decided to go back and give it a real chance. Good thing I did!)

I was still living in Russia at the time and got my hands on EU1. Couldn't figure it out, especially since it was the English version of the game and I expected it to be more like Civ. Put it away. Came back to it some months later and things suddenly "clicked" for me.
Got EU2 in a sale, liked the theory of it but bounced off it a bit.
I got EU3 though very early on (before any expansions) for reasons I can't remember and did whatever the opposite of bouncing off is.

I had heard about it but never got too interested until my friend suggested it. I bought it and was confused at first, I didn't understand it at all. But I still played it and the rest is history.
Saw a CiV youtuber playing it and I was bored of Deity CiV. This fits more with my interests.
Watched a Rostov>Rus lets play by josefvstalin (He also did Teutons>Prussia in EU3). Then I got CK2.Enjoyed it a lot, still do.
Then Paradox gave away EU3 Chronicles in a newsletter, played that for around 50 hours. Didn't love it but it and the the EU4 demo convinced me to pre-order about a week before it came out.
1636 hours and all expansions later, it seems that was an effective business move by Paradox.

Imperialism games? Man i miss those... Sorry for the off-topic question but do you think there are genuine, similar games sucessors to Imperialism? Even the spiritual ones?
I played a little for the glory and eu3, and wished that the interface was better in both. I then played hundreds of hours of vicy 2. So when I saw the goal of eu4 was usability, I had to get in on that. Bought it shortly after release. Since vicky 2 I have been hooked on whatever paradox is cooking up.
Mount and Blade (that's a first here) to HOI3 to EU4 on a recommendation, having realized I liked PI games.
Saw a review (or was it an ad?) of EU1 in a Swedish gaming magazine and remembered it. A lot of time later, found EU2 in a game store and bought it. Remember playing 10 hours straight on my first session as Sweden and going to school completely tired the next morning.

Used to collect maps as a kid and when my parents barred me money to buy maps, I started exploring the information highway (as I look back with shame for calling it that) for my fix (. eventually I found this super elitist post about Victoria=Empire Under the Sun, I actually hated it but because someone said it was good online I had to force myself to lie to myself about liking it. At some point after EU3's release I picked it up and have been absorbed by a range of paradox games ever since.
For me it all started with the release of Sword of the Stars 2. It was the worst release of a game have had ever seen, and the first and only time I have asked for a refund. After watching a Lets Play I took my money and bought Victoria 2 on a whim. After quickly putting a in few hundred hours into that I started looking into other paradox games. First EU3, than Ck2, and back to EU4. Since then I have bought and played most of paradox's games.
