I was looking for a Grand Strategy game so I searched Wikipedia, I selected Victoria 2 and I fell in love, I then tried EU3 and I HATED the sliders so much that I never played that game again besides those first few hours.
When EU4 came out I had no interest on it because of how much I hated EU3 but I decided to give it a try shortly after Conquest of Paradise came out because the RNW looked cool, welp the RNW was underwhelming to say the least but I loved the slider free game, can't wait for that RNW rework tho :) (Or Victoria 3 a man can dream...)

It all started with CK2. Saw a review in a magazine. Watched a Youtube series (very old). Bought CK2. Played CK2. Joined the forums. Started visiting the EUIV forum. Got interested in EUIV. Watched a Youtube series. Bought EUIV. Played EUIV. Now I have 500 hours in CK2 and 150 hours in EUIV. Just bought Victoria II two days ago. Paradox has hooked me in.

Had played a fair bit of Civ5, wanted to try something a bit more complex. I very briefly tried the CK2 demo, but couldn't really get into it. Months later, bought EUIV in a sale. Even more months later, got around to finally playing it. It really wasn't much like Civ5 at all, and getting the hang of it was frustrating at first, but it's now my most played game by a clear margin.

Started 30+years ago when I played Rennaissance war games with figures, there were a few board games around at the time but not many for the period. Eventually played computer games read a review for EUI thought about getting it then EUII was released got that and have loved them ever since. Strangely skipped EUIII.

I started playing EU IV because first of all I am a history student so getting to know more tiny-history tidbits through events and such while playing videogames is a nice combination and secondly because I love strategygames. I must say that EU IV has helped me make some of my exams because they would include geographical questions: I would just load the corresponding EU IV map and look at that first for a general taste of what the map looked like haha

This is like giving crack to an ex addict in the hopes that business will be booming again soon.
And it worked.

Played CK2 and loved it, played Vic2 and loved, bought EU3, found it to be a confusing mess. But then I started reading the EUIV dev diaries, got excited, tried the demo and bought the game.

Aha. I was a big TW fan before. But Rome2 was a disaster. Then i started to find another game like that.

First time i saw eu4, i didnt like its graphics that i used to see in TW. But after i watched gameplays, i realized that strategy is something more than graphics...

After i played eu4 i decided to try other series lile vic2 ck2 and hoi3. Now i am addicted.

Long live Sweden!

The classical music. Accidentally stumbled across the embarrassment of musical excellence that was EU2, and carried on from there.

EUIII (Collector's Edition!!1) was a very fine game with music almost half as good. EUIV is my least favourite; the introduction of forts ruined it for me and the music is barely music at all, with a couple of exceptions. Grunting in tune about covers it as per "Ride forth victoriously" which I mod out immediately on a fresh re-install. Ugh.

I bought EU II in a local store when it was discounted. For some reason I've always loved maps, history and the like. So naturally it seemed very appealing to choose a country, guiding it through centuries of gameplay. :)

I stumbled upon EU1 in a store back in my home town, many years ago. The box had nice artwork on it and the guy behind the counter recommended it most strongly. I've basically been hooked ever since.

I got CK2 in a bundle and saw a video for it. Tried the game. Got hooked.

About a year later my friends convinced me to try EU4 if I liked CK2 and I found a nice enough sale for it...

That's the story of how my spare time died.
