Ok i just finished my first full game with Reaper's due and i decided to make a post about what killed my rulers.

I started as a custom made Count in Asia Minor in 769 and i planned to have an easy game to see how it is going (no crazy things like chasing the Imperial Throne or conquering the entire World)

1. Count Bardas Phokas of Tyana. Died age 66 from Gout (luckily i exploited an Arab civil war and managed to conquer a chunk of their lands)

2. Strategos Nikephoros of Cilicia. Died age 37 comatose following a blow in the head during a Holy War against Antioch

3. Strategos Leon I of Antioch. Died age 57 from an infected wound during a Byzantine civil war

4. Count Ioannes of Antioch. Killed in battle during an Arab invasion age 34

5. Count Bardas of Antioch. Died age 18 from the flu

6. Count Konstantinos of Antioch. Killed in battle during an Arab invasion age 27

7. Strategos Nikephoros of Antioch. Killed in battle during a Byzantine civil war age 41

8. Strategos Leon II of Antioch. Killed in battle during a Byzantine civil war age 49

9. Strategos Bardas of Antioch. Died of cancer age 66

10. Strategos Konstantinos of Antioch. Murdered by his cousin the Patriarch of Antioch age 59 (Propably because he was a Devil's spawn and a Satanist who had affairs with 3 witches. Interestingly enough his eldest brother was killed in battle, the second son was murdered by the third and this one was murdered by Konstantinos who remained as the sole heir of his father Strategos Bardas of Antioch).

11. Strategos Nikephoros II of Antioch. Died of cancer age 51

12. Strategos Leon III of Antioch. Murdered by his wife age 30 (too many bastards)

13. Strategos Bardas II of Antioch. Killed in battle during a Holy War against the Arabs age 32

14. Strategos Nikephoros III of Antioch. Died of Slow Fever age 18

15. Strategos Konstantinos II of Antioch. Killed in battle during a Byzantine civil war age 33

16. Strategos Leon IV of Antioch. Died of Dysentery age 42

17. Strategos Konstantinos III of Antioch. Murdered by an Arab of his court age 40 (propably wanted to slow down his advance against the Arabs. Just my thoughts for role play)

18. Strategos Bardas III. Executed by the Emperor following a failed rebellion

19. Strategos Nikephoros IV of Antioch. Died of Plague age 43

20. Strategos Ioannes of Antioch. Killed in battle during a Byzantine civil war age 22

21. Strategos Leon V of Antioch. Died of Consumption age 51

22. Strategos Bardas IV of Antioch. Killed in battle against a pretender age 30

23. Strategos Ioannes II of Antioch. Murdered by unknown conspirators age 49

24. Strategos Basileios of Antioch. Died a natural death age 71

25. Strategos Gregorios of Antioch. Died of cancer age 54.

26. Strategos Bardas V of Antioch. Died of Measles age 34

27. Emperor Nikephoros of Byzantine Empire (formerly Strategos Nikephoros V of Antioch). Died a natural death age 57 (My char got elected as the Byzantine Emperor so i got along with it and switched to Primo as soon as possible in order to keep the throne)

28. Emperor Leon IV of Byzantine Empire. Murdered by his Council in a Palace Coup age 24 (ok this is how i imagined it for roleplay reasons but the Mystikos was involved and a civil war for Elective Monarchy erupted right after the murder)

29. Emperor Konstantinos VII of Byzantine Empire. Died of severe stress age 73

30. Emperor Ioustinianos III of Byzantine Empire. Murdered by his cousin Strategos Nikephoros VI of Antioch age 54. (The traitorous Strategos and cousin succeeded to the throne because i had switched to elective from primo since i was too bored to fight a civil war 3 years before game end)

31. Emperor Nikephoros II of Byzantine Empire (formerly Strategos Nikephoros VI of Antioch). Died of natural causes age 60.

32. Emperor Konstantinos VIII (son of the former Emperor Ioustinianos III). Still live and kicking by 1453 age 24.

So most of my rulers died in battle (well if u live next to the Arab borders you get to fight a lot of battles) and fewer from cancer and other diseases.

Also what i noticed is that the Council post with the most deaths is the Steward.

Τοο much proximity to Arab borders engaged me in constant fighting with them.

Twice i had Jihads for Syria and i had to delay the Arab doomstacks with hit and run tactics until the Imperial Doomstack arrive and save my ass. Thats what killed most of my rulers.

I'd have thought you'd have more losses to diseases. In my Karen game my Zoros got hit hard with disease. My first guy died a bloody lcancerous leper.

Well as i ve said above being near Arabs you get a lot of fighting with their Jihads and stuff. So my rulers fighting in the first line of fire were pretty much exposed. Especially when i had to defend my own lands.
