What is your favorite warrior throughout history and why?

That's a good point... but they weren't that disciplined until around the time of Marius. Before that they were pretty much a militia and they lost as many battles as they won... eventually winning by sending another army to be slaughtered, then another, then another.

So either they were disqualified for being professional, or so unprofessional as to lose way too many battles.

Not sure which is a bigger disqualifier for me (this is also why I rank the Norman knight highly... those guys won a lot)

Unprofessional... but determined! And besides, it's not losing battles that matters... it's the war as a whole. Win that and a few lost battles is neither here nor there.

The Roman legionaries were probably really good warriors as they were professionals who had to train daily with weapons and shield which were much more heavy than their real counterparts, for hours.

As for my favorite troops, Stormtroopers / Arditi during WW1. Storming trenches with knives and grenades and a special training on machine guns and flamethrower.
