Machiavellian politics 1000 years in the future settled by giant robots fighting in which we operate a mercenary outfit taking on missions and trying to scrape by to build out our home base dropship. Single player campaign. Single Player skirmish mode. Multiplayer/PvP. Turn based squad combat. Mercenary sim. Battlemech customization.

Based on a 30+ year long game franchise. You might know the setting from the Mechwarrior or Mechcommander games. Battletech is the original setting they stemmed from. :)

From Harebrained Schemes - the same studio that developed the Shadowrun Returns series, including Dragonfall and Shadowrun: Hong Kong.

Hey Heradite!

The simple answer is that BATTLETECH is a turn-based, tactical 'Mech combat game for PC that Harebrained Schemes will be releasing soon with PDX as our publisher. We're in the process of moving our current forum here under the PDX forum umbrella so there won't be much activity for a bit but stay tuned!

You can read more about the game here on the BATTLETECH Steam page.

And there are a ton of links here with more information about the game and BattleTech.

Not an RPG. Though it'll have some RPG-like elements, it's more like X-Com than VC.

Ah thanks. If it's a turn based strategy game, I don't think it's for me. I can barely tolerate Civilization as it is. Drives me nuts I can't build a building and recruit a unit at the same time lol.

Thanks for the answers though! Hope people on this forum who would like it find this game!

Have a couple of visual aids (thanks Spartakus!). It's not like the Civ games. No building things out. It's the combat that's turn-based, like chess :)

Good news! It's turn based but from playing the Backer Multiplayer Skirmish Beta late last year I can tell you despite being turn-based it is not slow-paced. That is a deliberate thing Harebrained is trying to avoid. Your mileage may vary on how you feel about the rest of it, of course, but there are some videos on YouTube of streamers who were encouraged to share their skirmishes.

I was averaging 30 to 45 minutes for a battle in the beta. There is definitely the ability to take your time and a strong emphasis on making good strategic decisions, but I wouldn't call it slow.

XCOM is a reasonable comparison, but with larger and fewer units. Since you are using giant stompy robots with all kinds of lasers, missiles, and autocannons, it takes some concentrated fire to take a unit out. There is also a wide variety of units allowing multiple strategies and a lot of options for customization.

Battletech/Mechwarrior is easily my favorite series.

Also a reminder that most of the videos out there are promo's or skirmish/PvP only. They don't include the game's other major features like the Campaign or MechBay, mostly because HBS was avoiding campaign spoilers, and partly I think the MechBay hadn't completed development and polishing until later on.

Still, it shows what we mean when we talk about the turn-based nature of the game - because while the other stuff will be in the game, the combat is the meat of the game. (And the Mercenary Campaign the potatoes, and the MechBay those veggies you either love or try to feed to the dog under the table.)

I think the best idea of what this is all about is summed up in the "demonstration" that was given at Mechcon 2017. The best part was the "Fight to the death" between Mitch and Jordan.
