As a result of them being based on puns or historical outcomes that don't translate well into the game mechanics, sometimes achievements end up not being very fun to get. They might be overly restrictive or just feel like pointless checking a box without it making any other sense. So from over 300 achievements which ones do you consider the worst?

Personally I'd either go with Sakoku Law which requires playing in Japan for quite a while and restricts Shinto mechanics forcing a choice upon the player (and at least used to not work) or The Pheasant Strut which forces a choice of starting nation, even though there are multiple Nepalese minors and then requires fighting Prussia in a direct war... which usually ends up forcing players to make AI form it.

That one where you have to start as an Asian nations and fight against Prussia while losing at least X amounts of units. Too much RNG and the other option is for you to create and feed Prussia just so you can beat them.

Another bad one in my opinions is the Hoarder achievement which requires you to have at least 13 cults. Thing is, getting a cult is RNG fest and forces you to, again, create artificial situations where you release tags and either keep pounding them until the event for the cult fire or ally them in the hopes that the event will fire.

The Milhouse pun is also pretty bad because if the AI happens to go centralised before you become Emperor that is the run killed.

And Cartago deleta est is one of the most boring achievements ever as it requires you to put the game in speed 5 for years and just wait.

All pun-based achievements should just be removed and those whose genius ideas these were should be fined harshly.

Oh common, Pheasant Strut is not so much RNG. There are so many nations with Saxon, Pomeranian, Prussian culture, that you really can help any of them to become Prussia. I had OPM Stettin left and allying and building it to Prussia was the most fun part of the achievement
AqQuyunlu achievement is far more RNG dependent.

And the worst achievements are those, where you have to basically replay other achievements. Madurai - Mysore is the most obvious example (and still a lot of space to "improve", maybe Venad can have an achievement to conquer Corommandel too?), but also as Ragusa you do basically the same as Albania, Candar doesn't really differ from Trebizond etc.

BTW
Mullhouse was very fun achievement to do. Yo can become Swabia anyway and achievement requires you to do sth different/ The only thing I don't understand is why Mullhouse starting wth Swabian culture appears with French name

Im gonna be the one who says it: three mountains. WCs in general are mostly one thing: boring. Now to put an achievement in the game which already exists, just limiting the country is the real offense. You either force the player to do the most boring thing in eu4, cleaning up lategame WC, twice or doing it as ryukyu from the start, both of it completely invalidating the normal WC achievement.

One faith. Difficult achievement that requires exploits to achieve for most religions.

Edit: Carthago delanda est is actually the worst. 0 fun. Frustration at the max. Amount of time wasted is high.

Pure RNG/waiting game junk like Mary of Lotharingia, Sakoku Law, having female ruler/heir etc are the worst.

At least with achievements like one faith you can pick options that make it relatively straightforward (Sunni Ottomans) or with stuff like 3 mountains you can just vassal everything at the end. These are active achievements that bad players can't do, good players can do, and that elite players can do more quickly. They don't involve little more than survival and waiting like the worst achievements.

Most pun achievements are fine/get picked up incidentally.

Third Way can sometimes be infuriating. I've tried several times, and the AI will always find a way to fuck me over last second.

One time Granada went colonising and most of South America and Australia was Sunni.

Another time a bunch of Ming provinces flipped to Sunni from random events.

The Ottomans once even had provinces in Austria flip to Sunni after they blobbed huge over all of Eastern Europe.

The late game slog gets so bad at that point that I simply want to give up. Dealing with 800k Turks just to grab one Austrian province simply isn't worth the effort.

Currently very frustrated with Lion of the North (Start as Sweden and lead the Protestant League to victory against the Emperor ).

Much of it is nebulously out of the player's control.

I had a big solid army ready for the war, with a Protestant League twice as numerous as the Catholic side, and the fastest peace of Westphalia happened. Very much enjoyed that run.

Grand Coalition - in over 5k hours of gameplay I never was able to join a coalition, I guess this requires some stupid shenanigans to force AI to go over AE a lot
Die Please Die - why would I ever keep a retarded ruler for so long on the throne? Only to get this achievement I guess...

I've gotten an event to join a coalition against France once and it satisfied the condition of the first.
As for second, abdication wasn't a thing back when that was added, I think it was actually the beloved Enrique that I got it with.

100% it is The Pheasant Strut. Nothing even competes.

You have to rely on Prussia actually forming, which involves Poland failing [Danzig]; the region actually converting, and a nation getting all the required provinces. While it is not as rare as it was pre-Prussia patch; it's still pretty rare. Not only that; but it has to be a strong enough Prussia where you can have a war where the Prussians can actually lose 100,000 men in a single war. And then you have to snake across half the world to even try this; which involves going through the Ottomans or Russia in most cases.

Oh; and you're playing as a Nepalese minor and can very, very easily get screwed by larger Indian nations decideing to band against the player and make alliances they would absolutely never make if you were playing that country. [And yes; the AI absolutely does do this. Try getting an Alliance with France as an OPM Kongolese minor that's not even on the coastline; while France has literally 0 presence in Africa at all. That's happened in my game. Distance between Borders ALONE should make that alliance impossible. And France is my ally. Not my enemy.]

Personally I hate all seriously time-gated acheivements as well, because these can all fail due to bad luck. A bad alliance bloc could force a costly war; and that could easily make you lose something like a True Hier of Timur run. Even bad fort rolls in Indian monsoons can do this.

I don't mind most other acheivements, but The Pheasant Strut and the tightly timegated ones are too luck-reliant.

I suppose some of the 'complete the mission tree' ones are bad too. Since some of them rely on things like becoming the HRE, or specific situations occuring. But they usually have bypass conditions too.

Dishonorable mention to the achievements so easy they are not achievements. EG: Narcissism; Seriously?! ; That is mine!; Until death do us apart

Any achievement with RNG (Cherry Picking, Pheasant Strut) or that require you to play a generic bland OPM because of a pun. Yay, very fun to play Nagaur or Milhouse.

I forgot to add the time based achievement : conquer X before 1500 / 1550 / 1600.
Cheryy picking can be done easily in 1-3 tries with ashigaga. Declare war against Ming asap obviously dont fight look for 2 years ingame, if a 3 star general is there, works nicly. Had it after 3 runs a friend on first try.
